On the HR thing, those machines can be notoriously inaccurate. I only get a HR that matches the one on my monitor about half the time.

Also, HRs are highly variable -- 180 is not necessarily redlining it. If your rest HR is in the high 70s, it's just more evidence that your HR runs high (and women do tend to have higher HRs than men)>

Don't rely on charts at the gym or formulas to tell you what your HR should be -- HRs are too individual for that.

I definitely wouldn't try to slow it down, though I would try to make it longer as you get more fit. Also, maybe start trying intervals of 30 seconds very hard/30 second very easy as an alternative way to build your cardio fitness.
