In which I try Ted Lasso again:
Ted Lasso 2x04 "I should try Ted Lasso again." "I should discover that I don't think I actually even finished the first episode." "I should just pick a future episode and hope it will be less Not For Me and especially then I can figure out who all the footballers are so I can understand gifsets better". And so I picked this one which happened to be the Christmas episode, when I was aiming for the one where the guy has a press conference against a sponsor, but I'd already seen many posts that the Christmas episode was good, so I watched it. And it was good! And I watched it, voluntarily, in December! So that tells you how good it was, first that I gave it a chance and then that I watched it. I give them credit also for a hilarious very literal carol of the (door) bells sequence, a++.
Alas, I didn't figure out who more footballers were than the two I already knew who they were (Sam and Dani). So I guess I have to watch more episodes?
Content warning (for me) that there is a brief clip of George Bailey in It's A Wonderful Life, but I persevered and anyway, considering it's the scene where he jumps into the river, I assume it was there as a characterization note for Ted, just based, again, on fannish osmosis and reading fic.
Ted Lasso 2x03 This is the one with the sponsor protest. I can now identify Jamie Tartt, and I think Isaac is the one with the armband that says captain?
Ted Lasso 2x02 Since I'm going backwards anyway... I now definitely know which one is Jamie Tartt.
Ted Lasso 2x01: In which I discover that the name of the team is the Greyhounds. That explains what the animal is on the logo, I'd thought it was a horse. But, yes, now it is obvious, that is a dog. Also, Roy Kent is probably officially my favorite now.
Ted Lasso 2x05: Having hit 2x01, I could go backwards or go forwards and so chose to go forwards. I now know who Isaac is! Also the shrink is great, I still love the shrink. And taking the romcom tropes to Roy walking out of the studio and telling the host guy that this is what he has to do... fucking love Roy.
Ted Lasso 2x06: And now I love Roy/Jamie, and since I continue to love Roy/Keeley, I guess that's how it goes. (My s1 osmosis is that I would not love Jamie/Keeley, so I assume V-shape relationship is my ideal here?)
Ted Lasso 2x07: I really should be able to keep track of which one's Colin by now, right? I can, however, always tell Will! Who isn't a footballer but is a very minor staff member, so that should count.
Ted Lasso 2x08: Jan is the one with that swooping haircut and who always says awkward/rude things. The Higgins-doesn't-have-office-space gag is growing very old. It never made sense and it continues not to. I continue to be curious about how they're filming the football scenes but not enough to go google it.
Ted Lasso 2x09: I skipped most of this episode. Why does this episode exist? It's a nightmare.
Ted Lasso 2x10: Sorry, Dani, I refuse to believe a professional footballer does not have a pair of dress shoes. Again massive skipping, because this show was sold to me as a lighthearted sitcom for stressful times, and this episode. Is. Not. That. Also, really I am about to fall off this fucking show because I still do not understand why Ted Lasso took this fucking job and that is yet again probably about to become a dealbreaker.
Ted Lasso 2x11: I'm sorry, how psychologically healthy do I need to be to watch a light hearted sports situation comedy?
Every single person who finds out about Rebecca/Sam and doesn't say "but you're his boss", I lose all respect for. Which is a lot of people! Show, if you're gonna give me boss/employee, you need to either lean into the badwrong or make it clear that the characters are pursuing a longterm strategy to will remove the boss/employee part of it. I know Rebecca's immediate reaction was "but I'm your boss" but you know what, I need that to keep being her reaction, and if it's not her reaction, it needs to be EVERYONE ELSE'S.
Ted Lasso 2x12: Well, at least it ended well.
I would happily welcome Roy/Jamie recs.
