Yeah, I prefer to write linearly, but when I'm blocked I've always found one of the best ways to get over it is to jump ahead to the next bit I actually *want* to write. Half the time when I do that I find out that the scene I was blocked on isn't even necessary to the story so I don't need to include it anyway...

I've always jumped from bit to bit in my writing, then tied the bits together. I think it's a holdover from all those index cards I used for my senior paper in prehistoric times when people still used index cards ;)
