a postcard from post-racial America

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this paragraph?

Mr Baptist has not written an objective history of slavery. Almost all the blacks in his book are victims, almost all the whites villains. This is not history; it is advocacy.

It's from an anonymous review (now withdrawn)of The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American ( Read more... )

historical revisionism, racism, white hoods are for special occasions, slavery, white supremacy

Revolting. Not surprising that the one percent holds such attitudes, but revolting all the same. My father used to say that in a sewer, scum always rises to the top. :/

I just hate those days when I read things like this that make me want to apologize for being the same race as these morons.

Perversion is right, Lanning.

NOT defending the review because I have neither read it nor the book and don't intend to, but I think we might all be leaping to conclusions--are white abolitionists mentioned in the book? Because there were an awful lot of white people who believed slavery to be evil back then, too.

Um...you do realize you just agreed with the reviewer, right?

Only if the reviewer WAS talking about the book cutting white abolitionists out of history. From what you and the others were saying it was more "slavery not evil"?

The premise of the book is that slavery, a system of unspeakable barbarism, established the US as the wealthiest nation on earth.

Your response is to say, "But some white people were nice!"

Your response is not only irrelevant, it's offensive. If your takeaway from a post about slavery is that white people are being victimized, then you may want to check your privilege. To put it mildly.

Hi

I know we don't know each other, but I was just wondering if all was ok with you. I noticed you haven't updated your LJ in a while and I know you had things going on in your life and are nursing the grief of losing your mother.

Anyway, I was just checking.

Love

Jx
