Round 5 // Challenge 6 Alternates

Jul 12, 2009 08:25

Did you create a few icons for the challenge and then choose the best one to submit? If so, this is where you can post those "rejected" icons (along with your submitted entry) and make them sharable to others :).

challenge six, round five, alternates

Thank you! I never have any idea what to say with text so mostly focus on using it as a decorative element. Glad to hear it works for more people than just me!

You made a good choice with the one you submitted, it's definitely the best of these. I also like the third and fourth - the third because John is pretty and the colors are pretty, and the fourth because awesome b&w and interesting use of red splattery things. But I'm not sure what either of those are trying to convey whereas the John & Atlantis one has a clearer thesis.

Haha, I voted for your icon this week, and I don't usually vote for icons if I don't think they're at least trying to say something.

I think the last one is the weakest of the bunch... not the worst made (idk which I'd pinpoint as that, since they all look good from a technical standpoint to me - maybe the second alternate because I'm not sure the font is really the best for what you're saying) but it has the least going on thematically from an outside perspective. It's just John being pretty and it doesn't seem to say anything at all about his character. It's colored gorgeously, and I like it, don't get me wrong, it's just... idk. It's not soulless like some icons here, but it doesn't have clear intent ( ... )

I actually like the b&w one better... my problem with the submitted one is the light spot that makes both Elizabeth and John look like they have washed-out grey hair. To me it just looks too bright. But I do love the composition and coloring.
