Fire in the DiscoNeighbourhood

For those in New Zealand or otherwise interested - the house fire on the Terrace was pretty close to us - 2-3 doors over actually. But the house is fine, the cats are accounted for, and the washing on the line smells like a BBQ.

That's good to hear. We had a big fire a few doors down ourselves back in April, and that's always scary, especially in retrospect.

Yeah. I can't remember the last time we had an 8-alarm fire here in Wellington, 3 appliances is considered a fairly major event. I haven't had a chance to look at the property affected yet but I'm fairly sure it's the old ophanage that's now a block of about 20 or so student flats - which is a shame. I've got fond memories of many parties there in my youth : )
