http://sinoed.blogspot.com My Russian-language blog:
http://laosergo.livejournal.com When I add some people as friends, some of them feel the need to apologize for feeling uneasy about not being ready to add me. If it is interesting for me to read what you write, I add you so that your new posts appear on that 'Friends page'. It simply means that it is interesting for me to read it. Maybe because the language is interesting, I would like to read about the place you live in or things you write about, or... because it is an example of how not to write and I laugh outloud at the trash you scribble : ) I do not expect reciprocation. I add you just because of my interest, not because of the need to have a friend you add me. It is more like a subscription to a newspaper to be delivered to my door. I do not expect the editor of The New Yorker to sign up for my writings, and I read The New Yorker because of what they write, not because of their feelings/actions towards me - you might not be aware of my existence at all and still write, and this is the beauty of it, since this awareness has the most infinitesimal meaning to the issue of what I like to read. I don't expect my writing to be interesting for whoever, but if it is, you are most welcome to add me, to read me, to mock me, why not. So likewise, don't be insulted if you add me liking to read what I write, but I ... 'Coz hey, real friends are in the reality away from the virtual wwworld, not because they are listed on some tool - website which is here today, gone tomorrow. That doesn't mean that real friends cannot be acquired via this website. Uhmm...
And also when I added someone, I used to send a quick note telling people who I am and why I liked them, but many people just don't respond or are surprised I even wrote - and I understand - if they got a lot of people writing to them, it is hard to be too friendly, - so I decided not to send those silly 'hello notes'. But sometimes I do. Not that I am an impolite ass, sometimes I just feel my letters are just bothersome, so there.
I could have put it in a shorter way, but I didn't have enough time..
