Art for "Meadows of Heaven" by epeeblade for spn_j2_bigbang, part I

Meadows of Heaven by epeeblade is the first of two stories I've done art for for this year's spn_j2_bigbangSummary: Hundreds of years in the future, in a galaxy torn apart by war, Commander Jeffrey Dean Morgan must team up with Lt. Jensen Ackles to rescue two lost soldiers on a planet with a society based around BDSM (bondage, domination, submission, sado-masochism). ( Read more... )

This was an epic & impressive task *g*

Oh, I hadn't noticed you had painted them at first! Are they paint-overs, or straight portraits (because that's either a huge job, or a really massive one with all those portraits *g*)

I love the way you got the crew (I think? since I haven't read it yet) all in their matching uniforms, and the rest in appropriate outfits (like Rachel in her rennaissance style gown and background).

Definitely paintovers! Well, cloned then painted. My drawing ability is really pretty darn limited, but I had found that Painter provided me with enough tools to do some fun stuff. Mostly I drew the costuming changes, and redid a bit of the body I used with Misha. The citycscape probably has the most actual drawing on my part - all of the distant buildings and the trees. In general everything was photoshopped then painted over.

And thank you for noticing the uniforms - they were an interesting challenge! :)

Glad you like it!

Guard Ian is an original character based, visually, on model Paul Francis. epeeblade has a whole character guide here.

Thank you! The paintovers were something completely new to me and a lot of fun (Painter has sold me on the fact that I need a full copy. They really do allow a bunch more stuff, at least at my levels of confidence and are somehow just more "play". I'm also really glad that the black and white worked - I like it as a color scheme generally (and it was one less thing to worry about when trying a radically new technique.) It's a very fun verse to play with and I'm quite happy that no one else snapped it up.
