It's been really fun watching your dance gel into your own thing ( ... )

I'm not sure that studying non-ATS has helped my ATS but I'll take the compliment ( ... )

Oh, I completely agree about keeping to the ATS rules to help troupes best. And that it is very hard -- both in the learning and access to the teachings -- to learn all those rules and the theories behind them. Any ITS that differs has to adhere to a similar set of rules or it falls flat too! Honestly, one reason TT rocks is that we work the heck out of ATS, as designed!

Question, when you say this: "ATS is the Fusion in Tribal Fusion" what do you mean that it is being fused with? I'm not saying I disagree. I just am not sure exactly what you mean. What is the Tribal then?

I realized I re-upped Datura and then didn't use it b/ of AOTB prep. Duh! So I'm using that. I like studying w/ Latifa but Egyptian is not where my interests lie. Ok, baladi appeals to me a bit more. I know that what I'm learning is good for me, though, so I stick with it. I'd rather be learning vintage American (the original fusion!) or Turkish, but getting to Arty just isn't in the cards. Also, zills. I'd love a teacher who taught zills along with everything else. And I'd like to know more about folkloric styles. But I do like the personality and emotional work Latifa brings to it ( ... )

Yep. You're right. Carolena has only studied with Masha. I think most of the FCBD dancers also only do ATS. (Though I think Kae at least has studied with Suhaila). Carolena definitely does not encourage cross-training, especially for beginning students because she doesn't want other stylings to show up in ATS dancers' ATS. I suppose that's a risk, but I never saw that as an issue in my own students. Also, it's like ballroom dancing ... I'm not likely to accidentally tango to a cha-cha. There's other bellydance classes at the FCBD studio, so it's obviously not strictly forbidden.

Also, OMG am I one of those fanatics?! Maybe.

Here's how you'll know: do you have an altar to Carolena in your house?

Maybe you can take a vacation in August and do Artemis' Turkish intensive? I've heard lots of good things. I love that you're rocking the zills in a serious way. I wish there was a local teacher I wanted to study with who incorporated them more too.

Kae definitely studies outside and I think Kristine does too, as she performs with other groups besides fcbd. And frankly, I think the two of them are the strongest fcbd performers right now.

And while Carolena may have never studied bellydance with anyone other than Masha, she has studied other dance forms with other teachers, from what I understand. Hasn't she studied at least a bit of Indian classical dance and Flamenco?

I could have posted this comment to marinatempest's last one too!
