The start of the season

It's the start of the wedding season for us today, it's a bit damp outside, but I'm sure the celebrations will go to plan.

The do is at the newly refurbished and reopened Midland Hotel in Morecambe which we're really looking forward to seeing.  I think Peter remembers it from years ago when it was up and running, but I've only ever seen it looking

Andy's dad lives in Morecambe, it is a bizarre place.

I remember the Midland from a day trip to Morecambe in the 70s. I'm pretty sure that the hotel was still in use then.

I am really impressed with the restoration but I think it'll take an awful lot more to make Morecambe more than a place with a "destination hotel". My experience of holidays in the North-West as a child (Blackpool caravan in the summer and a long weekend for the lights in the Autumn) and a very unfortunate Blackpool conference a couple of years ago don't enamour me to going back anytime soon. I suppose you could use the Midland as a base for touring Lancaster and Cumbria?

The hotel looks beautiful, the Eric Gill's in particular and lovely. They've chosen some very odd furniture for the downstairs lounges which I'm not too sure about but the bedrooms were great, all so nice and new. The surroundings leave somewhat to be desired, but I quite like scruffy but I can imagine plenty of people being put off by what they'll see from the windows. We had a mooch round the town in the rain on Sunday morning, it's a seriously sad town and like you don't think that one trendy hotel will quite do the trick.
