Am feeling much calmer about the so called 'friend' issue after reading all of your lovely comments. Thank you all so much :) I've taken the decision to ignore her and just cut off all ties. I've not heard a peep from her, unsurprisingly. One of the others from that group has been trying to get in touch but I've just deleted the messages on receipt ( Read more... )

I liked the one I had a while ago - separate current account tied to a high interest account which I just DD the monthly savings amount to along with my council tax money so there was another transaction occurring as they had a rule on this. Mine was with Lloyds and it was a fixed high rate over 2 years. I'd recommend working out what you want to do with the money e.g. instant access or are you happy to tie it up for a while somewhere untouchable etc then look at rates for that kind of account.

I will be depositing a large sum but will need to draw on it each month. There won't be any direct debits or anything leaving it, though, and I won't be spending from it save the one monthly withdrawl.

You'll need to look for an account with no penalties for withdrawals - some of the higher rates do. I think you're better looking on MSE, or via say Guardian Money where they continually rate the best accounts but you're probably looking at around 3% if you need to draw down each month, unless you can lock some of it away and not touch that.
