I'll need a distraction

This will be very short since I am currently swamped by RL and because I'm still working on that Darcy appreciation post.

1) The latest LJ "upgrade" involves a system-wide friends page with infinite scroll. Since LJ has a long history of not listening to its users and I think infinite scroll is one of the worst system features ever invented, I'm ( Read more... )

the first season of Justified

Oh man, Justified is SO GOOD. At first I didn't like Boyd but now he is like one of my favourite characters on television ever. He must just read his scripts and giggle in glee.

We're halfway through season 3 at the moment and I adore it SO MUCH.

Oh gosh, it really, really is! I'm so hooked. *_____* hahaha I'm pretty sure no one likes Boyd at first; he's so unlikeable in the first episode. XD I'm really enjoying his relationship with Raylan; can't wait to see where this show is going!!

S2 has rocketed to the top of my To Buy list!

I love Justified! But the thing I have to talk about here is that when the news broke that Disney had acquired LucasFilm, my very first reaction was basically my inner nine-year-old bolting upright and going, "THEY'RE GONNA MAKE MORE MOVIES WITH LIGHTSABERS??? :D :D :D". So many years spent reading tie-in novels. The prequels were horribly disappointing but my Star Wars love is undiminished, and so I agree with your intrigued & apprehensive sentiment.

Eeeee, yes, that was my thought, too. More movies! \o/ I love love love Star Wars and I've read most of the tie-in novels (except all the ones set between the trilogies because they were annoying and just blech, and the latest Fate of the Jedi series). I was deeply disappointed by the prequel trilogy, esp because I think the story wasn't bad, it was just the execution and the writing (and some of the acting, omg, poor Hayden Christiansen was just totally out of his depth), and it could have been so much better. ;___; At least we got cool lightsaber battles??

Ooh, please tell me more, Polly! What are your favorite novels, who's your favorite author, who are your favorite characters?? *chinhands*

Yes, the prequels had potential! Which is partly why it was so painful to see it fail so hard. And yet it gave us young Obi-Wan (I JUST LOVE HIM SO MUCH) and cool lighsaber battles so I can't even bring myself to regret that they exist.

Ohhh, man. I started out with this collection of short stories -- Tales from Jabba's Palace, maybe? That was my first introduction to Mara Jade <3333 and also Timothy Zahn and A.C. Crispin, which of course led me right to the Han Solo Trilogy and I was basically a goner after that. I love Aayla Secura and Boba Fett! Weirdly one of my favourite books is Matthew Stover's novelization of the third prequel; ugh ugh ugh so good for me. So many detailed descriptions of Jedi fighting styles. So many Obi-Wan feelings.

I think I get mixed up between what's an actual tie-in novel and what's from a zine, 'cause I found a collection of zine stories online pretty early on and it's all tangled together in my head, ha ha. Rogue Squadron! I haven't read that one in years. Is that one of your favourites?

The story was solid, we had the tech for the CGI, there were quality actors involved (poor, poor Hayden), ugh, it was so hard to watch it fail. Jar jar. *shudders* But yes! Young Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, oh my goodness. <3

!!!! I loved all the short story collections; I'm pretty sure I have all of them (Jabba's Palace, the Mos Eisley Cantina, the Bounty Hunters; hmm actually some of them might be the collected stories from the Star Wars Journals). Timothy Zahn was my first. I read his original trilogy and that was it for me. I bought all the books I could find at my local used bookstore and borrowed the rest from the library. I didn't really like Kevin J. Anderson (I think he and his wife have fantastic ideas, but their writing skill just isn't on the same level as the other writers, IMHO) but I love Timothy Zahn and Michael J Stackpole and Aaron Allston. I adore Mara Jade with the intensity of ten thousand exploding suns. <3 ( ... )

Darcy appreciation pooooost. <3

I am very excited about these recs. And you make that rpf sound irresistible.

Ooh, you're the first person I've seen who's not been negative about the Lucas buyout. I think it could be fine!

But seriously Darcy appreciation post.

The post is coming along nicely but I just have so many Darcy feels, Beans, it's hard to keep it nice and neat and coherent. XD

:))) I've read some really amazing things over the past few weeks. So in love with Avengers fandom. <33 The RPF fic is one of the funniest things I've ever read. Let me know what you think if you decide to read it!

I love Star Wars so much, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, although the latest series of books was pretty mediocre. :p It's possible this might just be my knee jerk reaction to more lightsabers on my screen. XD

You'll have the option to turn off the infinite scroll.

Hansel & Gretel looks like it could be either surprisingly good, or downright bad. Either way, it has Jeremy on it, and in leather, so it could be the worst movie ever and I'd still watch it lol :P

Ah! Thank you for the link! That's great news, although I'm still wary of how usable the new friends page will be. :p

I'm pretty sure, based on what we've seen so far, that it will be bad (male sibling has to rescue female sibling from mortal peril with innocent-looking, naive new love interest in tow oh boy lol), but, as you said, RENNER in leather + guns, I am so there! :D
