On Writing

I snagged this from imadra_blue

1. How about a brief introduction?

Everyone's got their own little online alias...I'm Lark. I've been using that name for a long, long, time - over 10 years. I own Buy-shinra.com and I'm obsessed with Final Fantasy.

2. What got you into fan fiction (and/or adopting muses)?

When I was 15 I wrote three Star Wars novels. I barely knew what fanfiction was, but those were my first fanfics, I guess. Even though they mostly revolved around my original characters I used SW characters and it was set in the universe.

3. What kind of fan fiction do you write?

I don't write fan fiction anymore, but when I did I mostly stuck to FFVII, though I dabbled in a few other fandoms. The rambles aren't really fan fiction, and they definitely encompass more than one fandom.

4. Do you write for the same pairings/characters?

Mostly. Although over I ended up writing a lot of pairings I didn't even really believe in. Here's a list off the top of my head of every single pairing I can ever remember writing in any form, even implied (some are crossovers, doesn't count the rambles.): Sephiroth/Vincent, Reeve/Tseng (my main pairings), Sephiroth/Tseng, Sephiroth/Cloud, Rufus/Cloud, Rufus/Tseng, Cloud/Zack, Tseng/Zack, Vincent/Hojo, Rude/Reno, Tseng/Hojo, Sabin/Rufus, Edgar/Setzer...uh...that's a pretty long list.

5. What is your most popular fic/muse and why do you think people like it so?

The rambles in general are definitely the most popular. I can't name a specific one...everyone seems to have their own favorite.

6. Forget other people, what is the fanfic/post/prompt you've written that you're most proud of?

Fanfic wise: One Last Breath and The Price. OLB has a lot of crap in it, but it's got some really good stuff in it. And I just like The Price overall. It's not perfectly written by any means, but I like how it came out anyway.

And I'm proud of the rambles in general. I'm most proud of them.

7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What aspects do you struggle with?

Hard. I get writer's block a lot. And I always feel like nothing I write is ever good enough. That's my biggest struggle.

8. Write a few sentences of your favorite pairing or character.

Okay, ramble style:

Sephiroth: "...Vincent, what is this?"

Vincent: "I rented some movies for us, angel."

Sephiroth: "And you bring back Pretty Woman? There's no killing in that!"

Vincent: "I thought we agreed to watch something romantic."

Sephiroth: "I said there could be some romance in it. I didn't say get a chick flick."

Vincent: "I like this movie."

Sephiroth: "...This is gonna be a looooooong night."

9. Are there any fan fiction trends/clichés you hate?

Yeah. I don't like when things are overly sappy or one of the characters in a yaoi relationship totally acts like a girl.

10. Are you guilty of any of the trends you hate?

Yes, sadly. I was big on sap a few years ago. There are some parts in One Last Breath where the characters repeatedly held someone else's face in their hands. WTF?! What's with all the face holding? It annoyed the crap out of me. Oh well, grow and learn right?

11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you still write for it?

Like I said, I guess Star Wars would count, and no, not at all.

12. Name your OTPs and explain what it is about them you love to write.

The two OTPs that I actually wrote fanfic for are Sephiroth/Vincent and Reeve/Tseng. I love Sephiroth/Vincent for their tragic relationship and the pain they both been through. Reeve/Tseng I like for their turbulent relationship where Tseng isn't even sure if Reeve's really in it at all.

13. What would you call your writing style?

Blunt and driven by dialouge. I am not big on description.

14. Do you read other people's writing? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?

Not so much anymore, I just don't have the time. I'm really picky about what I read. The last fic I read was this great Zack/Cloud fic, but that was about a year ago I think.

15. Name one thing you'd love to write but have been too afraid or too shy to do.

Um, I'm kinda done with fanfic right now. I've gotta move on. I just can't get the rambles out of my system yet.

16. Do you feel uncomfortable taking criticism? Or worse, do you have the dreaded bloated ego?

No, not if it's presented in a nice way and is constructive. I don't have an ego at all, I'm actually very insecure which is why any kind of nasty criticism really gets to me.

17. When you write, is there anything that helps?

I like to have music on.

18. What inspires you?

Fic wise, music inspires me. For the rambles I've gotten a lot of inspiration from movies and TV.

19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fan fiction/RP experiences and you as a writer?

I really enjoyed writing fanfic. I don't regret it. And I certainly don't regret the rambles. I still can't quite leave it behind!
