See, in my head, younger!Babe sorta looks like that cap that Kay shared the other night. And then he grows up, and, wow, Gene, SEVEN YEARS.

But, oh, you are one of the only people who pull Gene/Babe off for me. AND I'VE MISSED THESE TWO;__;.

Gene's actually going to get his act together, is he? Or was it an opportunity lost forever? And Walt being all starstruck and adoring. You make me want to drag out my GK DVDs and watch it all again.

“I really ain’t as important as you making me out to be,” Gene said, slipping into the Cajun accent that always soothed the nerves.

Thanks, Nat. I'm actually not writing a lot, I'm just going back and finishing stuff that's been open for ages. (Except for the Hoosier fic, which was brand new.)

I started writing this one months ago, so in my head I was sort of working with Borstal Boy!Robin in my head + what most young guys in the American rock music scene look like. (And a good reason for the nickname.) But yeah, seven years def. makes a difference.

I've honestly missed writing Gene/Babe. (Tangent time: I think one of the big issues with Gene/Babe in fandom is that peple have like this one stereotypical view of Roe, which I DO NOT GET b/c he YELLS, and gets ANGRY, and rolls his eyes and is very sarcastic and is all about ordering people around and yet, for some odd reason, he turns up in fic as some kind of calm, kindly Saint and I'm like, lol, no. He had no issue with yelling at Winters and Harry, two officers who clearly outranked him. So I myself have issues with some of the Gene/Babe fic out there b/c Doc Roe, seriously, is not without his faults.)

All I can ever think of Walt when writing is his little "Aw, shucks" face. And then the "whoo-hoo, dress blues with a sword," line.

Btw, I totally agree with what you said about Roe, he isn't some saintly angel figure (and the way he gets angry at Winters & Welsh is totally badass).
Oh Gene, you should know by now that there's no way you're gonna get away from Babe. (and lol, Ma Guarnere blaming Roe for their bad habits, that's definitely a first)

Roe is def. a complex figure and I love going into the different aspects of his personality (well, not just him, all the characters have these interesting layers and I love doing background ficlets to try and sort out the 'whys' in my own head canon).

I do adore Roe/Babe, it is my OTP pairing for BoB and I really did miss writing it.
