the life of a musician really seems to fit chuckler so well, even during the times when it's tough like this and he's separated from his loved ones -- the way this is written, you can tell just how much he loves what he does, you know?
“You’d go insane if you were in one place all year,” Runner said, “you start losing it after three months. I know that means nothing though, when you just want come home. When I just want you back here.”
“Bed’s gone cold.”
“Pillow-Man Lew just doesn’t satisfy me.”
“How dare you sully my pillow-avatar’s reputation.”
“His technique needs some work.”
“Oh, fuck you.”and that runner knows, too. ...before it all dissolves into snarking at each other, lmao. (oh boys, they make me smile. so does snafu, with his lack of concern for other people's personal property -- and ( ... )

Runner and Chuckler are made of joy and snark, and putting them in Nashville 'verse just brings all the smile, and warmth, and happiness, and love.
I def wanted to show how yeah, it sucks, but Chuckler knew there would be days like this going into the business, and into his relationship, and he's just going to make do. In two weeks he'll be home for a few months, so he'll take his comfort where he can get it, b/c damn, man, he's playing a show with Snafu, Roe, and Walt. (It would be epic. Even more epic? The hometown show in Nashville where Hillbilly and Hoosier play too.)
I love writing these two, and writing Chuckler in general, because he always seems to find the good in the bad. Just keep smiling.
And thank you, bb. Esp. since your post spawned three ficlets that were a joy to write.

Lew could feel his face burning and was really damn grateful everyone else was sleeping.
“Aren’t you supposed to be nice to me on my birthday?” he asked.
I really wanted them spending time together for Chuckler's bday, but, like Kay said, this here is just as amazing because you can see the way they care and how they work despite the distance and just everything♥

I really did want to write about the sometimes sucky draw backs of being a touring act, but how, when you have strong friendships and relationships, it's okay, because with each passing show, you're closer to home. And because even with distance, Runner/Chuckler still bring the warm fuzzies.
Glad you enjoyed it, Nat, and thank you!
