I PROMISE I AM WORKING ON IT. ALL OF IT. (Though, really, you know you're taking the fic research too far when you're trying to figure out where your copy of the Catholic Catechism is. Not that it would matter since Leckie would be receiting pre-Vatican II prayers, which means Latin, but STILL)
Oh, I have all the Latin Rite translations out of the ones I didn't know. My Catechism was one of those whole "New American Catholic" things, which always had a slightly different version of the Apsolte's Creed in it from the one I learned, but I think that's because when I was little it was hard-line Roman Catholic thing?
Either way, half-way through I realized that, for the sake of reader audience, I wasn't going to throw in much of the Latin outside of "common phrases most people know" like Ave Maria, gratia plena etc etc. When you start to go into the Angelus you tend to lose people, you know?
Well, Down in NOLA is set in 2006 and In 4/4 Time has various dates tagged, (the other fics will have dates following, when I get everything worked out). Eddie arrives in LA some time either late 2007 or Spring 2008 (I went with late 2007). Haldane gets to LA in Summer 2007. He left the Marines in 2005, (Eddie left in '04), so both he and Eddie served pre and during-OEF and OIF. They're both in their mid-30s, as I sort of needed to do a reasonable age-shift for their poistions/modern ideas of college/work/life etc. I have a detailed timeline I've been messing with that I do have to get up as notes somewhere, soon.
So, it's modern, but lagging a few years behind our current state.
Yoooooou made me like The Pacific and now I'm reading fic all over the place! Unfair, I say, I didn't have enough spare time to start with! See, and it's little fic bites like this that did it, too. You just make me want to know more about them.
Also, I maybe clapped a little (a lot) at the end of it. Yeees, yeees, boys; everyone come together, gather around Snafu and Roe.
I have a whole meta post I've been working on for months that is basically in defense in the Pacific and why you have to watch it at least twice to love it once you get over all the brutal horror.
I hope you are enjoying the Pacific fic. There's sadly, not all that much, but what is there, it's great. I hoping the fandom will bring out some more Team Basilone, Lena, and Leyden fic.
BUT I'M GLAD YOU LIKED IT!
I've pretty much made Snafu and Roe the center of the universe, outside of Ron Speirs, who is like, the quiet center of the universe no one talks about.

...that's actually pretty much EXACTLY the way it's planned out. B/c I am shallow and saving up all my angst in this verse for Leckie.
