So last night, with rum apocket and bloodlust in our eyes, my friends and i hit out to go see Eli Roth's Hostel. I was one excited hombre for this film. Roth's first picture, Cabin Fever, holds a very dear place in my heart as one of the most entertaining movies i have ever seen. It had everything a horror movie should including a hobo running ( Read more... )

WHAT!!! I saw Hostel (and not liking horror movies much) HATED it! Not because of anything horrorific in it... but that 2 hour setup with all the giant boobs, only for about 25 minutes of friend disappearing/things getting weird/in the hostel, no way.... I think the idea was something to be admired, but I vehemently advise to NOT see that!! AUGGG!!!

I'm going to pretend it was the rum that led you to that conclusion....

Off reading this entry I'm gonna assume your taste in movies is poor.
Because not only was Hostel one of the worst films I've seen in my life, Cabin Fever is number one on my list....Two Horror movies with two things in common, they're both HORRible making for a HORRible post!

Sorry after Heidi told me you enjoyed that film I felt it necessary to leave you feedback.

ok, but here's the catch: i never said they were good movies, i said they were entertaining. Rushmore is a good movie, Cabin Fever is entertaining. There have to be two different standards by which we judge movies (since not all movies aspire to be art, we therefore must view them differently) and most if not all horror films fall into the second catergory. I felt that both films were entertaing, which is something that is subject to appeal on a person to person basis.

that being said: i can understand why all humans would dislike hostel. it was my brand of picture (horrific and well done gore), i'm sure most people found it repellant. I would argue that because of that fact, it's an excellent movie since perhaps that was it's goal. OR maybe it was just an excuse to peak the audience's attention with 40 minutes of sex and then rip everyone limb from limb. yeah, that seems more likely

Yeah...that's what made it awful....Damn near an hour of NOTHING at all(if not more) leading in to very minimal action. I saw a few people walk out of the theater. The previews lead you to think you'll be seeing something and you end up seeing something else. The acting was horrible...honestly I think that film (as well as cabin fever) should of went straight to video. I'm sure they figured with Quentin co-signing, the misleading previews, and the not so hot films in the theaters right now they had a good shot.

there really was a tremendous lack of things going on in this movie. OH! and the worst plot device ever!
