For those of you you have not read it on
Kate's journal I proposed to her on Thursday. If you haven't read her post yet, go and do so. Thank you to everyone that has wished us congratulations so far. Its absolutely wonderful.
Surprising her was really hard. I bought the ring online at Blue Nile. I had to get it shipped to NJ because if I shipped it to NY it would have meant major sales tax. So I arranged to have it shipped to Casey. He gave it to me at Dani's party. Casey, Liz and I snuck out of the party to pass it off to me. I was almost positive she saw that go down but fortunately she didn't.
The ring sat in her car overnight too. I had to wait until morning to bring it inside without her noticing. She was asleep when I unpacked it in the kitchen. It was gorgeous! I hid it in my closet. Even if she went in there she wouldn't have found it. That closet is a mess.
I spent the week arranging the surprises. The first was a package to be delivered to the hotel - the cracker jacks (seriously go read her post). It was supposed to arrive on check in. I got a call on Wednesday from the post office saying because she wasn't checked in as a guest no one at the hotel would accept it. Oye. So I called the hotel and I call the post office and I told them to leave it there under my name. I got a call Thursday morning on our way down from the mailroom talking about the package while we were both in the car. I played it off that the call was about a room upgrade.
When we got here we were told there were no upgrades for us. I was also told that nothing could be put in the room without us being there to receive it. Alright... so the challenge was to get Kate distracted while I could go up to the room with the bellman. It took an hour or two of blackjack to accomplish this but I did. The flowers were (and still are) gorgeous. The package was put on the bed and everything was set to go.
When I took Kate up to the room the first thing she noticed was the flowers. I told her to go for the box on the bed first. She opened it and she was incredibly happy. So far I've proposed 6 times - cracker jacks, flowers, champagne, card from PBFcomics, ring under the room service tray and finally at Lucy The Elephant. One more to go.
Last night my brother and his boys came down. we went to the Trop for dinner at Carmines. He was very happy for us. Tomorrow in theory my mother (maybe) and kate's mother and stepfather are coming down. That adventure will be a post into itself. I'd like to possibly go to the aquarium today but I think Kate has work to do. I don't think I am going back down to the tables - they have been MURDERING me. But I don't care - nothing can make me unhappy.
