Save the PETA

The PETA has decided to rename fish, and they've chosen the name"sea kittens". This is because people like to catch fish on hooks and fry them more so then house pets. However obviously once you read these bedtime stories you're reaction will be that the people in the PETA are clearly insane. That's the problem with a tactic like this, you can ( Read more... )

Yeah...if we stop considering fish a food source, we'll have to stop eating fish. That's gonna really screw up my sushi trips.

Sushi will move underground, you'll have to hide away for being cruel and eating the sea kitties.

Now, I'm more curious how you could reconcile owning cats and eating sushi if you were convinced that fish were sea kittens.

Remember, those mercury-laden fish that are ruining your mind were the top of their fish class.

If cats were gigantic humans would be in a heap of trouble. Especially if the cats had thumbs. We would be DOOMED. Cats eat EVERYTHING, and I've no doubt they would consider us a viable food source if they were larger than us.

Just sayin'!

Eating fish doesn't bother me, but it does bother me that a lot of what is caught goes to waste (I mean, check out the seafood case in a grocery store. You know that like 90% of that great seafood is going to get thrown out at the end of the day!), and it does bother me if people are overfishing or endangering ecosystems in their quest to procure delicious, delicious fish... I think people should try and practice sustainable fishing methods and whatnot, and farm the kinds of fish that we can.

Right, and it'd be better when we learn how to get people to stop wasting without trying to make them take extreme leaps of logic to do it. Also, unfortunately, while PETA does mention overfishing in one of their sea kitten stories it's clear that their goal is to eliminate fishing all together.

I remember when I was in college their campaign then was to show the horror of a butcher factory. I'm sure it's quite gruesome, which is why I mostly stick to working in an office. Two more things, because I can't stop typing. I once delivered a pizza to a butcher shop for wild game, and it smelled like delicious spices, and second, perhaps the best solution for the butchers is to go the Kobe style, massages and alcohol for the animals. Unless the PETA turns out to be teetotalers as well.

Traditionally, a butcher shop can be a pretty clean affair.

That's true, because it's one of those amazing things where people who interact most with animals and nature keep things in a state that allows them to continue that job for a very long time.

That's not to say that there aren't a good portion of deviant butchers. But it isn't inherently gruesome--no more gruesome than any normal means of meat preparation.

I went hunting for the first time recently, and the fellow who took me was talking about the possibility of skinning and segmenting a deer or elk(on site) if we were fortunate enough to shoot one.

I decided to look up how this process went about, and it's pretty incredible how much care is taken to minimize any pain the animal feels, and keep the meat from contamination. That is not strong a moral argument for it, but it may point to the objective relationship between man and animal.
