Before I leave, birthday fic what I wrote for Bart before and meant to post, but didn't. Now my love can be immortalized in something other than e-mail.

If you'd asked her, Gert wouldn't have said she had any special expectations for when Chase got home. There were a lot of possibilities, of course, but it depended pretty heavily on Chase himself. And on time. Gert didn't know how long would pass in camp before Chase got home, and there was a huge wide possibility of stupid things that Chase could do in her absence. Things like losing an eye or hand or other vital body part, and getting Brainy to make him a mechanical replacement that shot lasers. This really seemed entirely and worryingly possible. This is the problem with Chase. Chase requires a lot of care. Because Chase has about as much common sense as the average garden house. And he and Brainy are terrible influences on each other.

Gert isn't exactly worried. She doesn't think Chase is going to die or anything. She's mostly curious. Is he going to come back with a tattoo on his back that he's convinced will lead him to a hidden treasure? Will he be ten years older and not like her anymore? Will any of the billion things that could make him not like her anymore have happened?

She doesn't like thinking about that part of it, so she usually focuses on Chase being stupid. It's a lot less painful than Chase being horny.

It's two weeks. Two weeks isn't really that long. Two weeks, and then there's an explosion. Explosions in and of themselves aren't that noteworthy, but they aren't usually in the hideout.

"No es mi culpa!" says Victor loudly. It's weird, adapting to the Victor who supposedly killed her and doesn't know any of them, but Gert's dealt with weirder. A lot weirder.

"What the hell is that?" asks Nico.

Gert looks up. There's a train. Coming through the wall.

Well, that's not good.

"Sup Gert!" says...

Oh. Well. That explains...something.

"Gert, Gert, Chase an' Brainy made a time machine!!" says Molly, sticking her head out of the window of the train. She's wearing a conductor's hat.

"Did you let Chase watch Back to the Future?" asks Gert.

"Come on, babe, that was totally badass. And it was Brainy's idea."

"Did you let him watch Back to the Future?"

"It was for a good cause!" Chase argues. "Come on, let's blow this joint."

"Yeah, come on, Gert! Bart says if we can get back to his world before he does, he'll buy me ice cream!"

"And if we don't?" Gert asks.

"I'm buying him ice cream."

"Mol's got a boyfriend," Chase sing-songs.

"Shut up, Chase!" says Molly, sticking her head back into the train, presumably to beat him up.

"What the hell is that," asks Nico, coming in with the rest of them, her staff out.

"That," says Gert, "is my boyfriend."

She might sound a little proud.

Chase sticks his head out. He's taken Molly's hat. Either that, or he had one of his own. Gert's not sure which sounds more likely. "Oh, hey Nico. Vic. Karolina. You guys wanna roadtrip?"

"Roadtrip," says Nico skeptically.

"Hell yeah," says Chase, grinning.

Gert doesn't wait for Nico's response. She doesn't need a leader to tell her where she's going now.
