Memes are supposed to be fun. However, if you don't think the results are cute, that's fine. too. :) I just like getting a giggle out of some the results.
Check Livejournal's demographic stats. Especially the average age. Then think about how important fads are to the average schoolkid.
The very nature of LJ itself means that it does not, in general, appeal to adults as much as children; to the busy as much as the idle; or to the independently-minded as much as the social sheep. People in these categories are not excluded per se, but are under-represented compare to real life. Thus, social fluff such as memes has a much more receptive environment to flourish in.
