If Donna is a creation of Rose, I will never forgive Rusty.
However, there is some convincing circumstantial evidence in there. And there's always been talk that an early idea for Rose was that she was an alien that was created as a perfect companion for The Doctor. Maybe that's what Donna is then - created to be the perfect Companion: questioning him, not in love with him, stopping him.
I do think she's going to die, though. I think it's been known a long time that this was Tate's only year with the show. Plus, yeah, Rusty won't give up the chance of killing off an Companion during his run.
Ignoring my theory for the moment, a friend was telling me earlier that the word is that someone of all the assembled companions is going to die. Jack is unkillable and there are only two other Torchwood persons, so we can rule them all out. Martha is (I understand) going to join the Torchwood cast, so again.. no go. Sarah Jane and Luke have their own series (and god am I excited about her potentially talking about experiences with Davros and the Daleks), so they'll be fine. Donna has some plot left in her. Only Rose.. well.. she's played all her cards hasn't she?
He's convinced that Donna will be fine and actually it's Rose who will go, via extermination.
With all the foreshadowing that Donna will die, it would be nice if she actually survived somehow. I can't imagine we'll ever see Rose again once Rusty leaves - especially now she's come back; once she's gone this time, she'll be gone forever. So that would make most sense - however they have already played Rose "dying" before.
I'm not ruling anything out, but yes the other companions are safe because they have spin-offs! :-)
There are so many interesting possibilities for Donna I have seen mentioned - Romana; the Dr's grand daughter and thus quarter Time Lord; the Key to Time - that if they DON'T do something good I will be disappointed. I've got my own ko0okhead theory up on my Lj but I also increasingly think there's something very Dawn-from-buffy going on, yes. And after all RTD HAS already ripped of moist the main Whedon (and Pullman :) plots..
I'm also beginning to wonder if the big uncredited arrival next week will at the last minute, after Rose has (undoubtedly I think) snuffed it once and for all - be River Song - never having met the Doctor of course - as the guest celebrity companion for the next special...
