Recommendations for a small subwoofer?

I'm thinking of getting a small powered subwoofer for my home cinema setup, which is in a room about 10' x 15' with a lot of sound absorbent books, sofas, etc.. Doesn't need to be hugely powerful, I'm just looking for a little more clarity on low frequency sounds. Really DON'T want to shake the house and annoy the neighbours!

Any recommendations?

I would suggest NOT looking for a heavy one that sits on the floor then. Those tend to use the floor as a passive resonator of sorts. Depending on how much power/volume you need, I've seen some decent LOOKING powered subs for computers & compact stereo systems in the local thrift stores for quite cheap prices...

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Maybe put it on the floor near my armchair, not near the TV?

Got one of these today

http://www.gale.co.uk/sub5.html

Cost £20 second hand (about $33.50) and seems to work OK, although I haven't tried it properly yet - it needs a 1 to 2 phono adapter lead which I've ordered but probably won't arrive for a day or two.

Sounds like just what I had in mind. At 50w, it shouldn't shake things up too much! Good luck! ^_^
