(I'm not sure why it's important to me to put my goals round-up posts in separate posts from my life-documenting stuff. It just is.)
So. Let's do December first (spoilers: it did not go well.)
December Goals
* Yoga twice a week
* Get back on the elliptical
* Vitamins every damn day
* Write and do my Solstice ritual
....Yoga and Elliptical were total nonstarters. I managed yoga once this month and elliptical not at all. Vitamins were slightly less of a disaster; I managed them 21 days thus far and missed 8.
That being said, I did write and do my Solstice ritual, and I had this moment of just such pure calm and rightness-feeling in the middle of it that I sort of sat there in awe for a moment, poking at that feeling in curiosity. That is something I noticed with my last few holiday rituals as well. I'm really excited about it.
Okay, how did I do for the year?
Primary Goals
* Lose 20 pounds
* Increase fitness - cardio, strength, and flexibility
* Get in the habit of working out minimum twice a week
* Create space and time for spiritual practice and then do it
*️ Do physical therapy and get my right arm in better working order so I can go back to doing yoga
Stretch Goals
* Lose an additional 10 pounds, for a total of 30 (this would put me back at 135 pounds, which is a healthy weight for me)
* Be able to run a 5k
* Have ritual practice on all eight high holidays
At the start of the year, I weighed about 170 (I was optimistic in my goal-setting post). At one point, I was down to 158. I am currently at 163, give or take a bit. Still, that's not the worst effort I've ever made, and given how little I managed to work out this year (i.e. all of that is from food adjustments), I'm actually pretty proud of that.
I didn't work up to running a 5k, nor did I make as much progress as I wanted on cardio, strength, and flexiblity, but in October and November I was making some progress on those things and I have some concrete plans for getting back on that horse come January.
I did conquer physical therapy (back in January!) and I did create time and space for my spiritual practice. My ritual space is imperfect and only semi-permanent, but it is there and it has just felt so good to be there and practicing. I managed formal ritual practice on six of eight high holidays; I didn't have my shit fully together for Beltaine so I ended up just meditating for that, and I missed Lughnassadh altogether. Still, given that 2015 was a year of zero formal spiritual practice, I am pleased with my progress. I would like to do more of that in 2017, both high holiday and moon phase rituals. And hey, now that I have rituals I like developed for seven of the holidays (still gotta find something I like for Beltaine), this will be easier next year; I just have to go do the thing instead of research and planning and THEN doing the thing.
So, not bad for the year; about a 1/3 success rate, but that's still better than nothing, and I know where I fell down and where I had success in getting back on track, so I'm better set up for next year.
