Arcana Card:

The Tower.

The Tower represents

Ambition-it is the desire to reach the sky.

Fighting-it is the strength to defend and attack.

War-It is the desire to use that strength to change the world

Courage-it is the bravery to follow through on that desire.

Destruction-It breaks the barriers that stand in its way.

Danger-And it breaks what stands by its side as well.

Fall-it becomes too tall to hold itself.

Ruin-by its nature, it is left in a world it created; wrecked by its own hand.

Suguru’s holds within in him a hungry power-it knows the flavour of the highest heights, but has only been fed on the deepest depths. It desires to reach up, always reaching for the next step towards the light, and it will stand on anyone to get there. The friendship he so selflessly throws himself into is a tool to reach the next stage, to learn from them and take what he never had when he was alone. The he wants to drain his friends dry, become something stronger and move on, always reaching for that next height, never wanting to return to the darkness he had before.

Or so his Shadow would tell you. In truth, Suguru honestly does love and care for his friends on a deep level. He just values his friends so very much higher than himself, and thus feels like he’s draining on them. He doesn’t want to step on others to become taller-he wants be pushed from below and pulled from above, but once he has his hands on someone, he will never let go and pull them all up to the sky with him. Certainly he hates the world for what its done to him, but that just gives him more drive to make it a better place-it’s not a reason to burn it all down.

Shadow

Name: As a dual personality shadow, they use two names. Suguru The Great and Kinniku the Strong. SuguruTG named both of them, and demands they be called by those names. KinnikuTS doesn’t care at all, and says he did just fine without a name for twenty years.

Description:

Before transforming into his True Form, Suguru The Great wears a mask which looks like young a Pierce Brosnan (a reference to the fact that Suguru’s voice actor dubbed Pierce in the Japanese James Bond films.) and Kinniku The Strong wears a mask similar to Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star (another reference to voice acting work). The mask is actually literally two faced, and when they switch control, it is done by rotating the mask 180 degrees.

For clothing, Suguru’s normally comedic ability to switch clothing in a split second is applied; SuguruTG wears a tuxedo and KinnikuTS wears a jacket and jeans.

Personality:

The two personalities are Suguru The Great (as Suguru means ‘excellence, greatness’), who is a narcissistic, arrogant smooth operator type. This personality is created by Suguru’s refusal to accept how intelligent and strong he really is, using weakness and stupidity as an excuse to fail. It also reflects how much he wishes to be a part of the world, not because he cares about people, but because he selfishly wants to be taken care of. Ultimately, he wishes for everyone to be in awe of his genius and power. He believes that Suguru has made no real connections with anyone-he claims that Suguru only wants to protect and be with his friends because of selfish reasons, not really caring about them aside from the good feelings they give him. Thus, he compares Suguru to a parasite, latching onto people to feed on them. Whilst Suguru The Great does this as well, wanting admiration, he says that he is at least honest about it. Suguru’s great ambition lies in this personality-he believes it is his rightful place to be at the top of the world. As he puts it ‘It is the nature of the great to be pushed to the top of the world-and I am the greatest.’

The other personality is Kinniku The Strong (as Kinniku means muscles), who is a foul mouthed and abusive person-his entire existence is based around violence, be it physical or emotional. He is created from Suguru’s refusal to recognise how much he loves violence and with that, how his life’s goal, to protect everyone and create world peace, is impossible to achieve without violence. He is constantly challenging others and claims ‘as long as you are moving, you should be fighting.’ He believes that everything life does is a form of attack, even love and friendship, something to be retaliated against. Bizarrely, in a total flipside of Suguru The Great, he also represents how much Suguru resents the world and its people for his harsh past and cruel treatment. Whilst Suguru The Great wants everyone to love and praise him, Kinniku The Strong hates everyone for looking down on him. He has no greater desire than to show the world what it's like to be stomped on by someone stronger-as he puts it ‘if the world says I am the lowest trash, I will drag the world down to my level and reduce it to rubble.’

Whilst the two personalities seem to have opposite goals, the truth is that they can act in a disturbing unison. Suguru The Great wishes to be seen as the greatest in the world, but it’s relative. He doesn’t care if the world is rubble and everyone else are grovelling weaklings at his feet, as long as he is the highest being there. A king of ash and dust is still a king.

Dungeon/Enviroment: The Shadow lives where it always has-on the streets, in a home it built itself, all alone. Except this time, it’s a massive crater, with an equally massive sky scraper jutting from the centre. Shadow Suguru sits atop his throne in Meltdown City, higher than everything else in a lowly world.

The Shadow's 'True Form'

Description:

Everything about the Shadow’s body is dedicated to violence-every joint has a spike, bony protrusions jut up everywhere, the fingers are clawed, the horn, the tail, the legs, all exist purely for hurting others. Even the colours are harsh on the eyes. The face which was once so soft, has become hard and cruel. The large round lips are replaced with massive square teeth. The kanji on the forehead actually says ‘violence’ but can also be read as ‘to reveal.’ Shadow Suguru leaps from his tower when he transforms and then begins to grow, standing with the top of the tower at chest level, still the biggest, still the highest, and still impressively huge. Its entire being screams ‘I am here, I am the greatest and I will destroy you for not thinking so.’

Level: 81

The Shadow fights a hard fight, in three stages. For the first 25% of its health, Suguru The Great is in control. He immediately buffs himself to resist damage and increase his physical attack, before using single target physical attacks, replenishing his buffs regularly to make up for his low defence. The highest priority targets are the buff and heal types. Once his health is at 75%, Kinniku the Strong takes over. All buffing is forgotten and the rate he receives damage increases; but all of Kinniku the Strong’s attacks hit all of his opponents at once. Finally, once his health hits 25%, he enters into a sort of meltdown-his attack power increases, and he gains a move with two turns of set up that inflicts massive damage to all fighters.

The Shadow has very high attack power, but very low defence. The best strategy is just to pound on him with the strongest attacks you have whilst healing preemptively.
