I did have to wonder what they were getting the six million for. If the breach is sealed and the U.S. is so strapped that it's rationing food, then other countries are probably in bad shape too. Would they be funding a Jaeger program or some sort of undersea monitoring or even interdimensional travel thing.

I do have to wonder what the pilots (or former pilots) are up to. They're clearly still working on the same project (as each other), but what? Heading to space because having all your species in one basket has proven problematic?

Like the film itself, this is evoking useful thought. Which is impressive considering how many work hours I've logged today.

Other fics have covered the "what now" much better than I could, including things like the breach opening back up, yada yada. I wanted this to really be a one-shot, and a short one, so I left it vague on purpose. At best, I like the idea of an R&D program dedicated to solving the full deal, and the jaegers being used for rebuilding. It keeps Raleigh and Mako drifting together, and him building, which I think he liked.
