Chicago, 1951: Archaeopteryx and Branta

By the time Eustace finally made it indoors, everybody had gathered to watch the spectacle. Of course they had. While there was no lack of understanding among the Friends, there was no surfeit of dignity, either. Sometimes Eustace the Un-Dragoned got quite dragonish about it, and given today's circumstances, he rather rudely thought, a dragon was ( Read more... )

Oh Eustace. Anything but GEESE. AMAZING. What was Peter doing that he got so tan and muscle-y? I LOVE that he is quoting Sandburg. And you've channeled Chicago beautifully. I lived there for 10 years... Oh... YES the blues clubs and... oh gawd, so wonderful. So... Lucy and Alinsky ( ... )

Heh. I just noticed that you were writing in 1951, not 1961 (which was Autumnia's contribution) so I'm off by 10 years. oops. We'll just say they were in and out of Chicago Paravel for a long time.

Yeah, I set this just before the Everglades expedition. But I totally can see Lucy digging into the American Civil Rights movement with gusto. She'd likely drag Ed into it as well -- "because you know Ed, it's not our fight and we shan't be making it about us, that isn't right, but on the side of supply and logistics I daresay we could be useful to the people leading the fight, and you're just the man for that!"

AH, LOVE THIS. Once they get arrested. Not if. ONCE.

They have to keep Lucy's file in boxes, I bet.

Oh. my. god. GEESE. Canadian geese! Eustace, I am with you!

And of course Lucy is rabble rousing in Chicago and Polly is arranging things and Peter! Peter loving the American poets - oh my, I can so see Peter in love with Whitman. Right up his alley.

Peter: "I sound my barbaric yawp... my yawp... I quite like that."

Ed: "And what'd your yawp be then, IT'S JUST A SCRATCH!"

Peter: *grumble*

Geese are truly some of nature's most evil creatures. Eustace would go and get himself in trouble with some.

I love the little details, like Peter and Edmund shouting back and forth, and Lucy knowing she won't even get a response, but asking them to stop anyhow. She always does try.

Geese are nature's best proof of dinosaurs and birds having a common heritage. Those things are pure evil. And hate.

Oh my, this was delightful. So ridiculous - I laughed out loud. And you tied in so many of the other stories. This is really turning into an amazingly rich and detailed universe.

Well done!

Thank you! It's fun to tie in bits of the other stories, whenever I can get them to slot in.
