Scrubb shows up at her Quebec City doorstep unannounced

So, this takes place right after lady_songsmith’s contribution, TSG AU-verse with the Florida Everglades, the herpetologist-supplied moonshine, and the leopard spotted undergarments Edmund had so thoughtfully packed for Peter.  You can read and laugh here in which Peter and Mary do something never spoken of again except occasionally as "it"

This is kinda angsty ( Read more... )

Awww. That's sweet, until it becomes heartbreaking.

I love the vividness of this: it's full of life, of making and building and creating.

But now I want to write the part where Peter apologizes for being Very Drunk and explains that there's absolutely nothing except the part where they were Very Drunk and Mary and he would not work at all unless they were both Very Drunk.

And I am not getting back into the Peter/Mary muddle unless I am Very Drunk, so all that's doing is distracting me from the things I am (I really, really am!) writing. Hmmph!

I can't figure out how to turn the permit anon comments on? When I got to the settings it all seems fine...

And you have it! Go for it! it's only a few words. it's FUN. Really. A great break. (enable enable enable)
And I just fixed the commenting. Duh. Settings were not intuitive when you've not done it before.

This is fantastic, and just a touch bittersweet (and I could see Eustace crushing/in love with Mary). I love how romantic or not, Jill and Eustace are comrades. Their adventures are separate but still twined. The line about Nice, hinting at this fact, is my favorite part.

Thank you!! It is sweet and sad and I don't answe whether Jill and Eustace are together because I think in my head canon that they are not. I am not sure if Eustace crushes on Mary or not - and in an early draft of AW I started seeing Jill develop a crush on Peter which was very unexpected. Anastigmat had Jill as a doctor and I liked that a lot but as I started working with her in AW I began to see an artist, potter, cook and gardener. Thank you so much!

Whehter romantic or not, I do enjoy that they are still in one another's lives. I suppose Narnia would do that anyway, but their friendship is something I like.

If Eustace is not talking about a crush how or why is he feeling betrayed by those two (not that betrayal has to be of a romantic vein, I just could not think of other relationships that tend to be exclusive to two people.)

I agree completely! I think Eustace and Jill have a very close friendship, and they always will. I could easily seeing them trying out a romantic relationship, too. I'm just not sure if I see it sticking. Hence why I don't answer the question... I'm sneaky that way. thanks again!

Eustace is probably written too angsty. In this characterization he is obviously not pining away. And I'm not sure if he's more upset at Mary, or at Peter, or really that he can't get angry or upset with either of them. He's mostly disgusted with himself. And Jill is like a 60s flower child before it was in vogue.... Batik and tie-dye and flowers and gauze and bare feet....

Aww, poor Eustace. Really, if you know Peter as well as you should, then you'd know it was all due to way too much liquor. Well that, and the fact that Mary had been kicked out of her room by you and Asim. I don't ever see Peter and Mary together like that at all, but I do see Eustace still having some sort of crush on Mary here even after so many years.

And Jill in Canada now? I like the visuals of her home, with the watercolors and the pottery all over the place. It really says a lot about things she enjoys doing personally and professionally.

I decided that Jill is really not very comfortable in the states, and especially in the south in 1957 or whenever this is. She travels about, doing her art for herself, and scientific illustrations for journals and cooking. I just loved the idea of the two of them cooking together, and gently rolling out homemade pasta dough and letting it hang on a drying rack in the kitchen. My stress was whether all that would grow that far north in Quebec City. I'm just going to say yes and be done with it.
