How would I go about saying "I grew up in New York, went to Bronx Science and Smith" without sounding like "the bitch who thinks she's all that because she grew up in New York, went to Bronx Science and Smith"?
It's for my grad school personal statement. Numerous references are made to my high school college and "the place where I grew up". It's coming out a little wonky speaking in euphemisms.
Why are you writing about your high school? Did it affect your desire to go to journalism school?
I actually don't think I mentioned Smith in my personal statement. They read the entire application, so they'll know where you attended school. At most, I may have written "While at Smith College..." and never mentioned it again.
I think NYC might have more of an impact. Since I'm on break, why don't you send your personal statement to me, and I'll review it for suggestions?
After reading some of the introduction posts on the already-established "CUNY Journalism Class of '09" Facebook group (and a blog post about how people from New York love to talk about how they're from New York), I decided to just lay my credentials out there and let them take from it what they will. After all, it is a personal statement, right?

In what are you stating this? Writing? Introducing yourself at social functions?
