Thank you for attending my dream party
I just woke up from the sweetest birthday party I ever had. Friends came from near and far. Lansing, Mason, Bath all the way to South Carolina, India, and Israel. Friends I haven't seen in years. Hmm, This isn't really what I thought this land would look like. Not from the Pictures of my mother, and father. Not from the oral histories of aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Challenge update
I'm putting this experiment on hold right now. Without doubt there were too many variables I had not considered. The spirit of the experiment is still very alive. Before i can continue i feel like I want to have a clearer vision for data collection. I'm considering isolating each form of media. I can see I'm going to have to make a distinction between information and media. I'm not sure what the distinguishing criteria for each is. I also have to nail down more concretely what it is I'm trying to do. I'm seeking to clarify, and to become more aware of information, messages and how they're disseminated. So about 23 hours into the experiment. Though i have had a couple of times so far where I thought i'd like to turn on the radio i've largely not missed media. Through my social resources i've learned that there was an earthquake in China, and that John Edwards endorsed Barak Obama. So far thats the news. The Challenge
I have challenged myself to consume no media, save live performances for a year. This means no movies, no tv, no radio. Growth
I have been having some major improvements in my interactions with others. Still not operating with the ease that was a hallmark of my life. I've been finding that the mistakes I make lately seem to be pretty big ones. Thats okay, big mistakes mean i'm taking big chances.
