ultra-brief notes-to-self as I review the year in music, part one

yelle's "tristesse/joie" (particularly the stabbing synth) reminds me of robert palmer's "simply irresistable"

Are you talking about the bit at the end when the tempo spikes up?

See, I was talking about the first part, but then I realized the last part's synths are much better described as stabby, and now I'm not sure it's the synths at all.

This thought is sort of half-cooked as yet.

Oh, I kinda figured you meant that part because that's the only part of the song that I acknowledge as sounding at all like the Palmer tune.

Man, that Yelle record. Wow. That really needs to get around.

(I'm trying to decipher* the song and to be honest I was expecting to be able to come back and edit my post before someone commented (if anyone commented at all).

By the way I think I commented on fluxblog at the time but your remarks on White Williams really helped me unpack* that record.)

*I never really know the right verb for what I do when I listen to a song/record a lot to try to fit it into my understanding of music and culture at large
