It wasn't an urgent call for help, but it was something that struck a nerve with John all the same, sending a chill down his spine. Helen was in need of help. He hadn't meant to see her that day, but it was her voice he heard, no mistaking it.

Oh of all the bloody ridiculous circumstances she could land herself in, Helen just had to be stuck under mistletoe with John Druitt as her only means of escape. Really. Really.

"Well, how frightful a predicament to be in," he said, a broad smile stretching across his features. The situation was almost tragic, Helen needing something from him that they both knew was a bad idea. He forced himself to find it amusing to keep from getting angry.

"I suppose I should keep you company in the meantime?"

"Certainly. We can play chess and you can trounce me as usual," Helen said dryly.

"John, just kiss me so I can go home? I really don't want to be stuck here until Will wanders by, this is his long day and he's busy with things that aren't his wife stuck under a vile, parasitic weed."
