CHARACTER
NAME: Optimus Prime
AGE: Several millennia. It's never explicitly stated, but given the life expectancy of Cybertronians and the length of their war, it's safe to say that he's older than dirt.
FANDOM/MEDIUM: Transformers: Prime; Animated television show
CANON PULL-POINT: I am taking him from the season finale, One Shall Rise, Part III; more specifically, from just after he's opened the Matrix and extinguished Unicron's spark, but prior to his memory loss.
ABILITIES: As a nearly thirty-foot tall robot, it's safe to say that Optimus is rather gifted in the departments of strength and endurance, particularly when compared to the average human. He is capable of stopping a speeding train unassisted and battling hordes of robot zombies with Leon S. Kennedy finesse.
This does not make him invincible, however. He is susceptible to pain just like anyone else and can even be worn down over the course of a fight. The use of electricity can disrupt his circuitry, and high voltages are enough to take him temporarily out of commission. Cybertronians can also be affected by extreme cold, and their internal systems will shut down after prolonged exposure.
Being the commander of the Autobots, Prime is a seasoned veteran with millennia of experience - And as such, not just anyone would be able to best him one on one. He comes equipped with integrated blasters and energy blades, both of which are wielded with lethal proficiency. The small arsenal appears to be a part of his structure, as his hands transform into said weapons - So realistically, he can only use them one at a time. If he's already transformed a blade, he cannot use a firearm on the same side.
Like all Cybertronians, he is capable of taking on an alternate ‘vehicle’ mode - In Prime's case, a
red and blue semi-truck. What it loses in speed, it more than makes up for in sheer power - In the words of Knock Out, he is very "heavy duty."
As the last remaining Prime, Optimus possesses the legendary artifact, the Matrix of Leadership. He keeps it stored in his chest and only uses it in the most dire of situations. It possesses the collective knowledge of his planet and unknown powers - However, given the lack of ancient Cybertronian Gods in Oregon, he will not be using it.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
One shall stand - One shall fall. [I am primarily taking Optimus from the Transformers: Prime continuity. Hasbro originally intended the 'Aligned' universe to all be considered the same timestream - However, there are already some blatant plot conflicts between War for Cybertron and Transformers: Prime.
As such, I would prefer to take him solely from the animated series, using the video game and book as loose reference only - As that does appear to be what the creators are doing as well. They refer to basic events, such as the corruption of Cybertron's core, but don't get into specifics.]
CHARACTER PERSONALITY:
Strong in the face of adversity, Optimus Prime has long served as the noble leader of the Autobots. As his name would suggest, he is able to find hope in even the bleakest of situations, and, more importantly, inspire that same hope in the sparks of those around him. His comrades would gladly follow him into the most dire of circumstances, even going so far as to venture into the core of Unicron, the chaos-bringer himself, under his command.
Both resolute and just, Optimus is the very picture of what a Prime should be. Assured in his beliefs, there is no force on this world or his own that would convince him to compromise his morals - Freedom is the right of all, and violence should be used as a last resort. While he would sooner resolve conflict through negotiation and reasoning, he is by no means a pacifist - He can and will fight for what he believes is right, and will make sacrifices when it is demanded of him.
However, those choices are not made without regret. The weight of his decisions rest heavily on Optimus' conscience, even knowing that all other options had been exhausted. Still, he refuses to allow those feelings of loss to cloud his judgement, as he feels it would be a disservice to their memory. Mourning can be postponed until the battle is through - Better that, than allow their sacrifice to be in vain. Such is the burden of leadership; one which he accepts with a heavy spark.
That is not to say that some of his decisions aren't questionable. He frequently places the safety of humans above that of any of his team, and appears to be blind to the consequences of his actions where they are concerned. While it may be considered noble to some, it does tend to impede his judgement - Instead of allowing the children to move on with their lives, he continues to insist upon surveillance. The gesture actually serves to create a much larger threat, as fostering closer relationships and keeping them close at hand constantly places them in even more danger.
He also tends to place the highest value on human lives, insisting that there can be no human casualties, no matter the cost. In fact, it is only with the near loss of Raf's life that he finally reaches the conclusion that Megatron must be killed in order to truly end their war; after millions of years of indecision and internal strife, the threat of losing a single human life is enough to change his mind.
His innately self-sacrificing nature is something of a double-edged sword; it can be considered one of his greatest strengths, as well as a very obvious weakness. He will readily put the well-being and comfort of others before his own - The value of his own life pales in comparison to that of an innocent, and Optimus would gladly give it up if it meant their safety. It is an honourable sentiment, but it also provides an easily exploitable chink in his armour.
As a Prime, Optimus tends to be diplomatic to a bit of an extreme. His every word is calculated and thought out, knowing all too well the weight of his authority, and that as a leader, his words have greater impact. He keeps his emotions locked down tight, never showing any intense feelings. Whether it's anger, sadness, or even happiness - Everything he feels outwardly appears strangely subdued.
The lack of outward reactions make Optimus come across as cold, or even detached at times - However, that could not be further from the case. Despite appearances, Optimus cares deeply for his friends, old and new. He frequently makes smaller subtle gestures, such as the offer to bring Raf back a snowball from their mission in the Arctic. While it may not be as visible as a laugh, there's no denying that he does have emotions under that stoic exterior.
Perhaps one of the most defining relationships in Optimus' life is the one he shares with Megatron. Even following the Decepticon's drastic shift from mentor to mortal enemy, Optimus clings almost desperately to the hope that his former-friend will be swayed back to the 'right' path.
Through their numerous conflicts, while Optimus does not openly seek Megatron's destruction, he doesn't seek to prevent it either. When the Decepticon leader is believed dead, it actually leaves a visible impact on the Autobot leader - He laments that there had been no other choice, believing still that he might have been able to change Megatron's mind. But despite his own reluctance to kill his one-time teacher, he does not allow his personal feelings to prevent him from doing what is necessary in the field, which speaks volumes of Optimus' resolve.
WORLD: Ravaged by millennia of civil war, Cybertron has become uninhabitable. The planet's core poisoned and hope fading, the warring Autobots and Decepticons fled to the stars in search of Energon to fuel their seemingly endless conflict.
This search eventually led both factions to the resource rich planet of Earth - Which unfortunately, was already densely populated with its own indigenous species. Or at least, unfortunate for the humans unlucky enough to be caught in the crossfire.
Upon their arrival, a small team of six Autobots fostered a shaky alliance with the American military. In exchange for keeping the ever-present threat of the Decepticons at bay, they would live among Earth's people in secret. Creating their base in an abandoned missile silo in Nevada, they keep silent watch over their new home.
Three fairly uneventful years later, their briefly derailed conflict begins to pick up speed once again. Finally, the previously dormant Decepticons were spotted raiding an Energon deposit and Cliffjumper was captured and killed. The small team of remaining Autobots is down yet another member, making Optimus and his four teammates the last remaining members of their faction on Earth.
The Decepticons had long been quiet due to the absence of their leader; acting under the temporary command of Starscream, they had been gathering resources for the impending battles. That would soon change, however, as Megatron made his return. With him, he brought a mysterious substance known as 'Dark Energon' - It could be utilized to restore a sort of half-life in dead Cybertronians, spawning a breed of powerful, mindless zombies. Megatron hoped that by using it, he would be able to create an army to crush the Autobot threat once and for all.
Following the loss of Cliffjumper, Arcee accidentally revealed herself to a human boy named Jack. One event led to another, and eventually, the secret of the Autobots' presence had been discovered by three children. They quickly became the (somewhat reluctant) charges of the 'bots, in the hopes of keeping them safe from the now returned Decepticons.
The Earth that Optimus Prime and his Autobots inhabit is very similar to our own present day Earth - With the obvious exception of hidden giant robotic aliens. Particularly since the arrival of their young friends, they have become more acclimatized to the presence of humans and are steadily learning about their customs.
Despite the slip-up with the children, Optimus is still well aware of the need for secrecy. This is only compounded by the emergence of a human enemy - A squadron known as 'MECH', who would use their alien technology as a weapon. As it stands, the less who know of their existence, the better.
OCCUPATION: A printer.

THIRD PERSON:
In truth, Optimus had not expected to survive his final encounter with Unicron.
That moment he released the Matrix, chest paneling shifting and folding back in a way so natural, one might think it were a common day occurrence... He had truly expected it to be his last.
If it cost only his life to save humanity, it was a price that he was willing to pay. The humans deserved a chance to live free from alien war - And Optimus would not abide an innocent race suffering for their mistakes. Unicron would not be reasoned with, but he would be stopped.
It was almost eerie, the way his frame seemed to know exactly what it was doing, guided by the wisdom of those before him; he could hear the gentle whisper of the artifact, lighting the way...
And, just as suddenly as it had begun, it was all over.
It took a long moment for Optimus' internal systems to reboot, fingers digging ruts in the soft dirt as he slowly pushed himself up from the ground. The physical strain left him groggy, at least until the first hint of coherency crept back into his disoriented processor - Then, the rest was quick to follow, awareness slamming back with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.
Unicron.
The briefest flicker of dread shot through his spark in that instant, the flame of hope guttering. For the second time in his long life, he had stood at the core his dying home planet, its final chance at survival. If he did not succeed, Unicron would be restored, tearing Earth apart, throwing everything he had sought to protect into chaos-
... No, that was not the case. The Earth was still there, solid beneath him - And... Primus' Matrix somehow still safely locked away beneath his chestplating.
So what had happened?
Pressing a finger to his audial, he tested the reach of his internal communications system, searching for some sign of familiarity - Autobot or Decepticon.
The reason for their alliance may have been gone, but Megatron was still a part of this mission. While it was a dangerous gamble, Optimus could hope that this... unique turn of events might sway him into extending their arrangement.
"Autobots, report your status."
The circumstances may not have been what he had imagined, but... It would seem they had succeeded. The planet was safe, even temporarily - And that was worth any consequence.
FIRST PERSON:
[Despite the evenness of his tone, there is a subtle undercurrent of distress; while he did not know what to expect in the chamber... This was certainly above and beyond. The locale was completely different, his team nowhere within scanning distance - nor was Megatron.
Whatever this was, he didn't like it.]
[On his own private communications system, directed to his fellow Autobots:]
Unicron's energy signature appears to have vanished, as have the meteorological anomalies brought on by his awakening. While I believe that the immediate danger to Earth has passed - It would seem that his influence has not yet been purged.
Autobots, report to this frequency immediately if you are receiving this broadcast.
Ratchet, see if you can lock on to my coordinates and open a ground bridge. I am unsure as to my current position, but it would appear that I am still on Earth.
[For the moment, Optimus is going to restrict his public broadcast to voice - After all, he is not entirely sure of who has access to this frequency. If it were to be intercepted by a human, or anyone other than their allies really... The consequences would be dire.
The system did seem rather simplistic, but given the startling lack of answers... It did seem a good place to start.]
I apologize if this query has been addressed previously, but if anyone might be able to provide me with our current location?
It would seem that I have arrived here in error; any assistance would be appreciated.
