Chef Nino with an impeccable palate
A new side of Ninomiya!
This three-star Academy combination will be serving up an exquisite dish.
"Last Recipe ~ Kirin no Shita no Kioku (Memory of the Kirin's Tongue)~", starring Ninomiya Kazunari, opens in the fall of 2017 and is based on the novel written by Iron Chef director, Tanaka Keiichi. It's set in Japan in the early 2000s and Manchuria in the 1930s, and portrays the lives of two chefs who possess the Kirin's Tongue - the ability to perfectly recreate a dish once they have tasted it.
Ninomiya plays Sasaki Mitsuru, a modern chef who has the kirin's tongue. His ability to recreate a person's last supper at exorbitant prices earned him the title, "The Deathbed Chef".
Takita Yojiro, who takes up the director's megaphone for the first time in 5 years, said, "I want to show a new side of (Ninomiya), who is known for his versatile acting," and strongly offered him the role. Ninomiya was delighted at Director Takita's words and promptly accepted the offer.
Ninomiya won the Best Actor at the (39th) Japan Academy Awards. Director Takita, who was doubly honored with the Best Director Award and Best Movie Award for his film, Departures, also garnered Japan's first Foreign Film Oscar. This is set to be a movie taken on by Japan's cinematic giants.
Training at a culinary school
In the movie, Ninomiya will take on multiple cooking scenes, such as the preparation of omurice. "I'll have him practise to death so that I can take a full shot of him preparing the food." In order to fulfill Director Takita's high expectations, Ninomiya will be training from July till October 2016 at Hattori Yukio's culinary school.
"I've going to give this everything I've got."
Regarding teaming up with Director Takita, Ninomiya said, with the actor in him on fire, "I'll be stepping into the set with great joy and thankfulness. I'm going to give (this movie) everything I've got." This power-packed duo will be pleasuring the palates of discerning fans with this upcoming movie.
