"What are you waiting for?" Arya found the view on deck dizzying, but it was a good kind of dizzy. It was the kind of dizzy that made her think of snowball fights and pranks, the kind where you had to run and run until your cheeks were red and your chest hurt and you couldn't breathe because you were laughing so hard. It made her think of Winterfell.

"You're in the way."

He startled slightly, turning to see Arya and frowned. He still didn't like the idea of a kid being on board, and Arya looked even more like a kid in person than she had over the network. It was kind of hard to look at her and not imagine Joanna stuck here against her will, which was far from what he wanted to be thinking about right now. "Sorry."

He stepped out of the way, gesturing towards the deck. "After you."

She eyed him warily at the gesture, uncertain why he didn't go out himself. But after a quick look out on the deck, she stepped through the door. She didn't mean to look back at him, but she did, pausing.

"Are you coming out, or are you going to stay there?"

He sighed, irritated, but walked up after Arya, trying not to think too hard about the deck.

"You got a name, kid?" Because she'd been too busy arguing about how she was clearly an adult and he was clearly an idiot to give him one last time they'd talked.

"No." She kept him in view as she walked, but headed for the rail, wanting to look over. But since no one liked girls without names, here, Arya glanced back. "You can call me Cat, if you want."

Oh god, he is side eying you getting closer to the rail so hard. You had better not be thinking about climbing on that, young lady. "Alright, Cat then."

Stop reading her mind. She wrapped her hand around the rail and stepped up onto the first rung to peer over. "And you're Leonard."

And he is right next to her like, two seconds later, trying to focus on making sure she's not going to go tumbling over the edge rather than how close he is to it. "Kid, what the hell are you doing? Get down before you fall off."

Woah buddy you're a little close. Arya looks up to scowl at him, inching sideways on the rail. "I'm just looking. It's not even dangerous."

"How do you know? What if whatever's keepin' us safe only extends so far out along the railing?"

Arya stared at him for a moment, then down at the rail, then back at him. Then she stuck her arm straight out, over the rail and into the void, as far as she could stretch.

"It feels the same."

God damn it, Arya, stop freaking him out. It's getting harder to act like this doesn't totally freak him the hell out. "Cat, c'mon, get down. You don't wanna fall overboard."

Arya inched away again, then hoisted herself up, swinging her leg over to sit astride the top rail. Her balance is just about perfect. Comes from roughhousing with brothers and balancing on her toes on the edge of stairs for hours. "I won't fall. Are you scared?"

"That you're gonna fall? Damn right, I am." T'Pol had made it sound like falling overboard wouldn't kill you, but considering they weren't stopped in port, he didn't really want to test it out.

She locked her legs around the rail and sat back, hands in her lap. "Cats never fall," she told him, even though she wasn't a cat. She wasn't sure she was still a wolf, either.

"Yeah, but you're a kid." And he didn't mean goat, you weird little kid.
