Why did nobody tell me Avatar was the best show ever?

Because it totally is. So perfectly realised I don't even want to have fanfic. I don't even ship. The love had to spill over somehow, though. Here, have 1600 words of meta I wrote.

(I LOVE SOKKA. THIS IS NOT IN THE ESSAY. HE RAPS HAIKU AND FACEPALMS SO HARD AT ILLOGICAL PEOPLE THAT IT LEAVES A MARK.)

Let’s be honest. Both Sokka and Katara spend ( Read more... )

Hee hee HEEEEEEEE

MORE PEOPLE WATCHING AVATAR!

Also: you have interesting things to say! It's nice to see people being thoughtful about such matters as teenage sexuality, as opposed to just yelling at each other about it <3

Wow... I know you love the slash, and I love it too (almost as much as I love incest stories - another good thing about Avatar is the firecest) but Aang is just so, so young that I can only just about manage believing that he gets with the person he's been focusing all of his tiny desire on since he got out of the iceberg.

The reason this essay exists is that I was in a lecture and had Avatar float into my mind... hilariously most of these quotations are from memory! Though I checked them just in case.

Hm. Problem as I see it would be that the slash drivers, i.e. "for so long you were my drive" and all that amped up, only occur when Aang is young.

Trying to imagine Zuko at 21 and Aang at 17...

"Remember when you fuelled all my emotions and I was a smouldering heap of obsession? And you were torn between viewing me as your enemy and having instincts to reach out to me?"
"Yep. Isn't it cool that we're low-key friends now?"
"Actually, do you think we could have some retrospective sexual tension?
"..."
"Yeah, that doesn't make sense."

Hehe aww, Avatar! Back when I watched it, I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread! I love it to pieces. Being me, this means (of course) I didn't quite watch all the canon (a few eps at the end I still haven't finished), but yeah. It's like it was written for me, storytelling/magic-user kinks, obsessive boys, elemental powers and all. I think 'Western Air Temple' was one of my last eps, so I really went out with a bang. I totally had paroxysms of love for platonic!Zuko/Aang. Or just Zuko and Aang. I'd say just Aang, but that's when I totally fell for Zuko (I was holding out before ( ... )

WHAT.

Oh no, you have to, have to watch the rest as soon as possible. If you've fallen for Zuko, then how can you not long to watch him being part of the Gaang?
And as for 'went out on a bang'... it's more like a fireworks display where there's a sequence of crack-crack-crack. Every episode from then on is gold. And FULL of Zuko.

As for Zuko/Mai, I promise you that after watching the rest you won't think they're anything like Spike/Dru. One of the very best scenes of the series stars Mai.

And Aang has a WONDERFUL finale.

Please please please go download! you will make me happy by doing this!

I find the whole idea of shipping Aang, Katara, and Toph (er, not in the "with each other" sense, just the idea of any of them in a romantic/sexual relationship at all that goes beyond puppy eyes) kind of icky.

It's an overall awesome show, though! Yay for more people interested in it!

Yep - I'm old :-) Unsurprisingly I really like Uncle Iroh. I actually don't mind projecting into the future with possible other partners, but I'm not fond of establishing THE ONE OMG type relationships while the characters are young teens.
