The first time they meet it was an accident.
It was before an awards show. They were sure that the other party would not be there - but by luck or the lack of it, the information they received was false.
A buffed, short guy was spotted by Junho and the latter did not fail to stop abruptly in his tracks with eyes usually large and round. Their eyes met. A passer-by would have thought it was some kind of weird staring competition between them, with their unblinking eyes as large as they could get and their mouths slightly agape.
“J-Jay…” Junho could hear Taekyeon mutter behind him, but not loud enough for the said person to hear.
A few seconds of stunned silence passed by before Wooyoung tensed up, much like a sprinter would before setting off in a competition.
Minjae, upon noticing Wooyoung, quickly snapped back into the reality that was his job as a manager, and ushered the six boys into another direction.
He bit his lip, mentally debating. After all, the company didn’t say he couldn’t interact with Jay, right? Making sure the six stunned boys didn’t notice, he slowly turned around to face Jay, stretching his lips into a tiny smile upon making eye contact.
The smile he received rivaled the sun.
Thank you for taking care of them.
Minjae turned around too quick to see the mouthing of the last two words - for me.

The second time they meet they were slightly more prepared - but not prepared enough.
This time was during the recording of a music show. 2PM was promoting their 4th single and Jay was promoting his very first album. They expected awkward hellos and hugs, and if they were lucky enough, awkward laughter and playful punches to the shoulders.
Nobody expected Jay to pop out of the single-cubicle toilet the six boys had been queuing and fighting over.
Their eyes make contact again, and Jay unexpectedly chuckles after a few seconds. The six boys were too captivated by his laugh and failed to notice how ridiculous they look - Chansung with his mouth wide in attempt to bite Junsu, Junsu with his hands on the eatinator’s head and neck trying to push him away; Wooyoung’s and Taecyeon’s mouth stopping in mid-pout, clinging to either sides of Nichkhun; Junho somehow getting stuck between Chansung and the wall, wriggling around in discomfort.
Jay stopped laughing, slightly embarrassed at the intense stares - he had forgotten how six pairs of eyes on him felt - but then later six different sounds of laughter join him, and suddenly everything’s all right.
Someone calls Jay to stage, and he awkwardly bows to his ex-teammates (but forever family, a small voice in his mind tells him), before heading off to the stage.
“Hey,” he turns around abruptly, knowing that all stares are still on him. He swallows thickly - he has never been so nervous saying this before, but here he goes -
“What time is it now?!”
The six boys stare dumbly at him.
The person calls for Jay again.
Jay gulps, his heart falling to the depths of his stomach, and quickly makes his exit. But he doesn’t go far before he hears it, and as messy as it was he could never mistake it, that confirmation -
“It’s 2PM!”

The third time they meet was after the music show.
There were throngs of fans outside, waiting for a chance to see their idols in person. When Jay steps out they scream, and he just smiles and waves. His eyes are searching for something.
There - he spots them, not too far away, but the distance between them still seem far way, too far away for his liking (thousands and thousands of miles, too far, too long). They spot him too, and it was like the first time again, both staring at each other intently.
Minjae, once again reminded of his job, quickly tries to usher 2PM away and into their waiting car. Most of them comply, knowing all too well the damage antis could bring if they showed any form of interaction.
Or do they?
Wooyoung tenses up again, this time too quick for Minjae to see, and he turns around and sprints, sprints so fast that all you see is a flash of ridiculous bright yellow, in Jay’s direction.
Yes, he knew. He knew how hurtful netizens’ comments could be. But he doesn’t care.
He runs right into Jay’s arms, and he felt like things never changed between them.
Jay prepares himself for five other bodies to crash into him and squeeze the life out of him. He tells himself that it was all right, he and AOM had done this kind of things before, and since AOM was more muscular this shouldn’t hurt at all -
But he temporarily forgets how 2PM isn’t AOM, and he’s always weaker, more vulnerable, more prone, to 2PM.
Thousands of miles finally disappear and he gets crushed and life almost squeezed out of him, but this feeling never felt better.
Whether the noises were cheers or protests, whether JYPE sees this, whether people don’t understand, they all don’t matter.
Because they were home. All seven of them.
