“Yes, and today, we have many groups performing, including MBLAQ and BEAST who have recently made comebacks -“
Wooyoung stopped talking abruptly, letting out a frustrated groan, then let his head drop onto the table. He knocked his head several times, cursing himself for messing up his script for Inkigayo the very next day. Why can’t I memorize this shit? Oh wait, he sighed, isn’t that obvious enough? It was because I still can’t stand it, still can’t stand the fact that my-no, our leader-had left us. Other groups were doing so well, but not them. Not the six-membered 2PM, nor the ten-membered Oneday.
Nichkhun, sitting across the room, looked up from his laptop to see Wooyoung hitting his head on the table while muttering curses to himself. He frowned slightly.
“What are you doing? Trying to make yourself stupid or something?” Nichkhun questioned, looking at Wooyoung incredulously. But, of course, Nichkhun wasn’t stupid enough to not know what Wooyoung was going through (not that he had been paying extra attention to him).
He knew that Wooyoung was messing up his Inkigayo script because he had other things, more important things (jealousy?), on his mind, and he just couldn’t concentrate well enough. Wooyoung wasn’t like Taecyeon, who could memorize the whole of his script in half an hour and continuing to sulk in his room.
Wooyoung didn’t reply, only letting out a groan. He did, however, discontinue the attempt to hurt his head. Nichkhun rested his laptop on the sofa and made his way across the empty room over to Wooyoung, who still had his head on the table, not moving, except for the steady rising and falling of his chest.
Nichkhun stood behind Wooyoung, hesitating for a moment, unsure of what to do. Truthfully, seeing Wooyoung like this, staying completely still and seemingly lifeless, made Nichkhun feel uneasy somehow.
Images of Wooyoung happily breaking into ssanti dances in the middle of dinner, rolling around on the floor while doing his ‘ang ang’ face when Chansung ate his share of mangoes, screaming his lungs off while playing video games with Junsu (and screaming even more when he won), comparing eye sizes with Junho, stealing Taecyeon’s bright orange pants and strongly denying it afterwards (even though he was wearing it) and break dancing with Jay flashed through his mind. And then he remembered those few times where Wooyoung would climb into his bed, claiming that the living room was too cold and Chansung stole his blanket, or that he had this nightmare where it wasn’t safe around the other members anymore.
Nichkhun felt as if someone had held his heart tight- too tight-and his stomach twisted, making him feel slightly nauseous. Then suddenly he was full of determination to somehow make Wooyoung better, or at least let him memorize his script successfully.
Nichkhun bit his lip, then stepped forward and knelt down beside Wooyoung. The latter didn’t move. Nichkhun then wrapped his arms around Wooyoung’s torso and buried his nose into his shoulder, breathing in Wooyoung’s familiar scent.
Wooyoung finally moved. First he jumped slightly due to the sudden skin contact. Then he jumped a second time, a bit higher then before, when he realized that it was Nichkhun-the adorable Thai whom he happened to have a crush on-who was hugging him. Wooyoung stared at Nichkhun in surprise, his cute cheeks warming up, unsure of how to respond.
After a few seconds Nichkhun slowly started to let go, thinking that Wooyoung didn’t appreciate it and that he just needed some time alone. However, much to the Thai’s surprise, once he lifted his head and loosened his arms, Wooyoung immediately hugged him back, even kneeling down on the floor with him because Wooyoung thought that it wasn’t fair that only Nichkhun was on the floor.
They stayed like this for quite a while. Both hugging each other, Wooyoung leaning into Nichkhun slightly, his head resting on Nichkhun’s shoulder and Nichkhun rubbing Wooyoung’s back soothingly because he knew that Wooyoung needed some sort of comfort.
Nichkhun’s worry for Wooyoung increased when he felt the cloth on his shoulder starting to get wet and Wooyoung’s breathing started to become more and more uneven. His hold on Wooyoung tightened and he started to whisper It’s okays and whatnot, hoping that it would make both of them feel better, even though both of them knew that it wasn’t true.
Slowly Wooyoung’s sobs stopped, and Nichkhun felt Wooyoung’s breathing even out. Nichkhun gently pushed Wooyoung off him and wiped the remaining tears with the back of his hand, his own tears threatening to fall. He looked at Wooyoung in his eyes.
“Look at me,” Nichkhun started to say, his voice soft and determined.
Wooyoung did as he was told, his eyes red and puffy.
Nichkhun gulped. There were so many things he wanted to say, but he didn’t know which ones to say.
I know that you’re sad ‘cause I am too.
Please don’t be sad, it makes us even sadder looking at you cry. Especially me.
Can you be strong for us? For our Hottest? For Jay?
But Nichkhun threw all those away, and settled for simpler words, albeit slightly off-topic.
“I love you, Wooyoung-ah. I really do.” Nichkhun said slowly, making sure Wooyoung heard it right.
Wooyoung’s first reaction was to stare in shock. Sure, 2PM members often said I love yous to each other, but not in this way, never so seriously. His second reaction was to smile, and then he grinned like an idiot, tears still evident in the corners of his eyes. Finally, he spoke.
“I-I love you too, Khun-hyung.”
They embraced again, Nichkhun feeling damned glad Wooyoung felt the same. Wooyoung muttered, “I didn’t know you were gay, hyung.”
Nichkhun just laughed, and Wooyoung soon joined afterwards.
