So, I figure I should enlighten some of you who I haven't been in personal contact with recently as to my current situation. I'm not cutting this since I think it's important that you should all know how I'm doing ( Read more... )

You poor, poor thing! Sounds like you had a hellish time, but it's good to hear your health is getting better.
Sophomore year I spent a couple days in the hospital due to anemia (although my hemoglobin was 6.2, nowhere NEAR as bad as yours!)
Were you creeped out by the transfusions? I could barely look at the sight of someone else's blood going into my arm.

Iron tablets might make your digestive troubles worse, by the way. Whenever I took them, even prescription ones, they made me sick. I got weekly iron IV's instead. Hopefully your body tolerates them better than mine did!

I hope that you only continue to improve, and take good care of yourself!!

After a while I didn't even notice the transfusions, just the occasional ache from the IV in my arm. As ghoulish as it sounds, having the blood was kinda like having a tall drink of water for the first time in months. I could already feel that I was getting stronger after only the first bag.

No problems with the iron tabs so far. I'm taking this stomach-coating pill first thing in the day called Protonix, which is supposed to protect against the harshness of the other meds I'm on, so maybe that's why the iron's not bothering me.

Regardless, I've felt better than I have in a long, long time. :)

Thanks! Yeah, it was kinda scary, just thinking you're run-down from a bad cold, then finding out Death is knocking on your door. >_>

At least people were on the ball about getting you checked out :) One of my good friends thinks that I have a thyroid problem, and it's somehow been overlooked for erm.. 12 years now -__- At least I can find out about getting that sorted when I go into the doctor's office on the 13th... fingers crossed.

Yeah, it's weird getting used to pooping practically normally again. It's been TWO years. >_>

OMGZ You were in the hospital???? No wonder the nurse said in plain english "you are going to the hospital!" Your hemoglobin was way too low as you learned. I am so happy you are feeling better and that your fever was discovered before it did any permanent damage. Keep up the good health and maybe keeping tabs with your personal docs on a more frequent basis will help manage your health the way you want it. Those guys are full of info!!
When I was a kid I got strep really bad and spiked a 106.5 fever. Mom actually called the hospital to find out what to do to even get me to the hospital stable. They said COLD BATH!!!!! Mom said I was screaming my head off, I only remember being barely in my body and this constant ringing in my ears. I think I saw in monotone, I remember a lot of purple from that day, like halos around people and a purple hazy I was carried through because I wasn't walking normal.

One thing I forgot to mention is that my temperature was in flux from like 99 to 102.8 or so for a good 35 hours after I was admitted. They kept giving me Tylenol every four hours and I probably drank a few gallons of water, so it kept spiking, then going down, then I'd be feverish again. It sucked because my gown kept getting so sweaty.

man making my little trip to the acute care center this evening look like a walk in the park, and here all I got was a sinus infection.

Well it is good to hear that you are doing better, and I am betting with the good run of those drugs they should get you back in working shape in no time at all.

just make sure to finish all you antibiotics and avoid alcohol while taking them... that would be the pharmacy tech in me talking again.

and hey keep in touch now and again you've got my number if you want to visit at some point and time, heck this summer would be awesome for a trip to bristol or to six flags.

Yeah, I'm staying off the alcohol for the time being. All's I've got is a third of a bottle of Crown Royal, anyway, so it's not like I could really drink even if I wanted to.
