Thanks! I admit, when I started this fic two years ago, it was with the intention of ending with a sex scene. But being older and wiser, I realized it shouldn't be about what I want to happen or wish had happened in that fade to black (which I think is what most authors write). It's about being truthful to the characters and what I think probably did happen. And it's hard to see them going from sex the night before to "I love you"/"No you don't." I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

You have to respect what the characters would do. To be truthful to who they are. And not do what would turn you on or satisfy you. That's how a lot of writers end up writing Mary Su or Marty Stu stories - they fall into that trap. I think we all have actually. I know I have.

Yes. If they'd made love that night, that last scene just...well it would have been different as would the scenes that came after in the comics. I had never thought of it that way before, but it's a very good point. I'll have to think about that. Given that they had sex so often in S6, and that solved or fixed nothing, I can imagine them making love here but then waking up in the morning back to the same state of awkwardness we see here

I know this fic is a few years old but I enjoyed it tremendously. I think it's very true to the characters in a very awkward stage of their rela - oh, wait, when was their relationship ever NOT awkward

I personally didn't need to see them shagging (although a more sex-friendly message for our female hero would have been appreciated on my part); and I didn't have any doubt that they loved each other even if they didn't know what to call it or what to do about it.

Yes, absolutely. I tend to be torn between wanting the sex for the reason you had mentioned and thinking that it wouldn't really be right for them at this point in time. It would be nice to see Buffy in a positive sexual relationship, but I didn't need it to know that they loved each other. And given their uncertainty about their feelings for each other, sex under these circumstances probably only would have confused them even more! "Does s/he really want me, or is it just because we might die tomorrow?"
