I went to Hanson´s- on a dare!
So, because of Glee, and Ryan Murphy I decided to re-watch Popular.
Because I did watch it when it first aired, 10 years ago, so I don´t remember much (I was 11). I remember likening it, but I never tought it was something super-genius or inovative, it just felt very current, and I liked most characters.
But ow, the pilot is not very good is it? It was mostly lolrific, then anything. What with the lady with the guittar? Does she appears very often?
And man, late 90´s fashion! There is nothing outrageous, but is very boring, you know, with all the baby blues, the light pinks, the whites, the lose shirts and pants. There is nothing very oustanding. And all the chokers! I had one, it hurted like hell, but you know, try reasoning with a 11 year old. The clogs, I had one of those too, but I think I was a bit younger. Is all very bland. The most daring thing was Carmen´s leopard print purse, and you can tell she was totally making a fashion statment with that. There were some metalics that I do remember being in fashion by the millenium, but that was it. People complain about the 80´s but a least they knew color, and leather, and you know, fun.
I did liked Nicole´s hair tough, very cute, and I think that with a little less product would still work now a days. The rest was all, very preppy and structured. Harrison´s single stripe of blue hair did not a rebel made.
And OH, Sam is such a douchebag, like, how stuck up and ridic can you be? She wanted to get a piercing to stand out, like lol, everyone had a piercing in 99, like every single person. And I did not remember she had a crush on her teacher. Of course I remeber likening her very much, but I was too, amazingly awful as a tween, so there. Thank God, I learned to embrace the Blair Waldorfs of the world, or else Vanessa would probably be my favorite character of GG.
And that routine the glamazons (yei, something I do remember) did, the funiest thing. I could do it, and I have two left feet and am horrible to memorize routines. I guess white girls really can´t dance. And I find Sara Rue super hot nowadays, but then, yeah, not so much.
And yei, Mary Cherry, she is super awesome already.
But the best thing, the very best thing, the references. Baby One More Time, Celine Dion, Limp Bizkit, someone begging for the Leo thing to stop (yeah, Titanic was already sort of old by then), BACKSTREET BOYS VS N´SYNC (wich, btw, N´Sync), HANSON!!!! OH MY GOD, MY EARLY TEENS! LOL to the infinite power. They would never guess the geeks were going to take over the world, did they?
