I am planning a trip away! At this stage I'm tossing up between a winery on the Mornington Peninsula, or a winery in the Yarra Valley (a theme?). Of late I have become a miserable emo, and the idea of having some time without Michael and the girls (mostly Michael) makes me so happy. I have plans for some kind of balcony, wine, cheese and stupor ( Read more... )

I'd join you. A weekend at a winery, desperately attempting to regain some of the freedoms of our youth. Sounds like a movie script.. :)

A weekend away from the significant other's sounds good tho. Especially if it involves a winery.

I'm ashamed to say tho that I have never been to any wineries in or around Melbourne. I know where all the breweries are tho :P. I think thats reason enough for a weekend away really heh.

hehe. I haven't been to the Yarra Valley since I went with my parents to see snow. So no wineries for me either.

This place looks so, so lovely - http://www.visityarravalley.com.au/accom_result1.asp?code=16825. And it accommodates 6! Awesome.

Being a Friday and hence avoiding doing any work I spent lots of my arvo browsing Yarra Valley websites. Found a few places reasonably priced for multiple people.

Also we can book a winery tour that can pick us up at our accommodation for about $85. Goes to 4-5 wineries and includes lunch and stuff. A good option coz no one ever wants to be designated driver.. need a non-drinking friend who likes the 'atmosphere' of wineries. :)

Oh, a winery tour sounds wonderful! If we stay somewhere that has cellar doors within walking distance, we won't need to bring a pleb who'll be the designated driver either ;)

Which sites are you looking at?

was where I read about the winery tours. Tho if you do a google search for 'Yarra Valley Winery Tours' you get a huge list too.

Off the top of my head I think one of the places I saw was called Sanctuary Cottages, and another was Cockatoo Springs. I was just doing random google searches mainly and seeing what I could get to. Looks like there's 100's of wineries and about 5 times as much accommodation! I never realised it was quite so big :).
