[davyd@floyd ~]$ apt-cache show libnss-mdns
Package: libnss-mdns
Priority: optional
Section: universe/admin
Installed-Size: 144
Maintainer: Anand Kumria
Architecture: amd64
Source: nss-mdns
Version: 0.5-1
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.4-1)
Recommends: mdnsresponder, zeroconf

Where is the Avahi/D-BUS dependancy? I demand that you kill Anand and take over this package by rite of caste. I want to be able to ping .local addresses again.

nss-mdns works fine without any mdnsresponder (it has its own mini stack), however 0.6 will optionally use avahi if its available at the time, i have prepared an upload for ubuntu breezy.
