The "cool" things... and the not so cool.

So, I thought I would go through and detail a number of the features in KDE I really love and find usefull, as well as detailing a number of the problems I've found.
Cool Things

  1. Spell checking in * (Konqueror, Kopete)This is really awesome, Konqeuror (web browser+) and Kopete (instant messanger) have in-line spell checking, in text areas, anything ( Read more... )

Drop this in ~/.kde/Autostart as gnome_settings_daemon.desktop:
<<<<<<<
[Desktop Entry]
Comment=
Comment[en_US]=
Encoding=UTF-8
Exec=/usr/lib/control-center/gnome-settings-daemon
GenericName=
GenericName[en_US]=
Icon=gnome-main-menu
MimeType=
Name=Gnome Settings Daemon
Path=
StartupNotify=false
Terminal=false
TerminalOptions=
Type=Application
X-DCOP-ServiceType=none
X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false
X-KDE-Username=
<<<<<<<

Go can also do this via konqueror: Select Go->Autostart in menu,
RMB click -> Create->Link to program, enter necessary information.

Kubuntu :)

And yes gaim does, firefox doesn't. :)
And its not on by default in gaim, so I never really noticed it, its hardly an intrusive feature.

And yeh, so gnumeric is good, but lots of applications aren't some will even load via gnome-vfs but won't save (old gedit, new gedit kicks ass however!)

Don't forget to blog when you solve KDE's DPI problem. My friend is fighting the same issue on his SUSE.

Well, a temporary solution is to modify what X thinks the DPI setting is

You can change the physical dimensions of your monitor, I'm pretty sure SUSE's YaST config lets you specify it, else lookup the xorg man page.

I had this problem

And what I did (after much googleing)

anders@salt ~ $ echo "Xft.dpi:75" > .Xresources

I won't be convinced kde can save you from your own grammer mistakes until I see it correct your uses of there/their/there, your/you're, etc. :)

And yet you spelled grammar wrong...

Note the liberal use of the word 'spelling' and the absence of the word 'grammar' in my original post. :)

And yes, 'grammer', good spelling there. :)
