Yup, two fics on one night. I'm on fire. :p In contrast to the last one, this is not sappy. At all. I also spent a long time freaking out over how I wrote Byakuya, so feedback there is appreciated. Apparently he put a lot of Wisdom on his cereal on the morning of this fic

Thankyou babe. ♥ To be honest, I am hoping a sequel might stike me at some point, and that that sequel might involve more overt shippiness. The problem is, I think it might take, like, 200 000 words for these two to get past their manifold psychological issues and make out. Le sigh.

Unless wise!Byakuya is also more sexually assertive than my usual Byakuya. Which could be interesting. Hmmm.

I don't think I have any idea what's going on in his head either, I just flail around until it sort of feels like it might possibly be what he's thinking and go with it. :p

I absolutely adored the un-empathetic way Byakuya was so trying (not) to comfort Shuuhei. God. And then? And then?

Thankyou! I'm glad you liked it. I was wibbling a lot over posting it, so the good feedback has been soothing.

These two...I like them together so much, and I really want to explore a relationship between them more, I just find Byakuya so hard to write. That's probably why I usually cheat and write him in sentences/drabbles/PWP. :p No character development required.

I like them together too. And I love that you refrenced Byakuya's "mask" because really, that's something that Shuuhei is forming himself, unconciously.

I personally love Byakuya/Shuuhei (in that order and reversed as well). You effectively, and beautifully, captured the essence of them in this piece. I have no problems putting them in bed together (heh, the sexual games Byakuya likes to play--is so very good at playing, with Shuuhei as a willing, giving, eager partner--I think it's one of the few ways the two of them can breach each other's loneliness and the shields they both wear as armor) it's how they wind up at that point that stumps me time and again.
But yeah, I loved this.

I actually like Byakuya best when he's this cold and unyielding. I hear a lot from ByaRen fans that they like him with Renji for the very reason you named. They like him out of control and a little unsure, but I happen to like him just the opposite. So you writing him like you did here was very alright by me :D

And, I really love Shuuhei best when he's emotionally/mentally tortured, so again, KUDOS.

Also no, you are not the only one who likes Byakuya/Shuuhei. I've played with the idea in my head for months, but I haven't written it out yet. So that makes fives of us now, judging by the comments. YAY!

this fic was lovely and bittersweet and beautifully written. I haven't really thought back on the beginning of Bleach in so long and this was a nice reminder of what the shinigami have gone through since then. ByaShuu is one of my fave crack pairs bc in all honesty, they are both so asthetically pleasing (mmm tattoo!kink heehee) and Byakuya's inherent (and canon IMO) grace and elegance. I dig the stoic, broody thing they have going on haha.
