I thought I'd already posted this, but apparently not. I am cheating a little, because this isn't new - I wrote it a while back and found it again today in my fic folder of doom. However, I thought a few people might be interested in it.

How is it that this can inspire and delight me when I have never read a word of Bleach, never seen a moment of the anime, and have no idea who any of these characters are? I applaud your ability to write so well that a reader's ignorance is no obstacle to their enjoyment. I also curse your ability to write so well that I must now restrain myself from embarking on travels through your fic archives. For I have learned, to my detriment, that that way procrastination lies. :p

Naaaw, you flatter me. ♥

Fortunately for me and my evil, canon-perverting ways, there isn't actually a huge amount of canon about Shuuhei, so I can essentially do as I please with him, the poor muffin. :p It's one of the best things about Bleach. There are so many random characters with only a sketchy backstory, so you can do so many different things with them. My opinion of Kira as being a total psycopath, for example, isn't grounded on much, but there isn't really anything to contradict it either. :p

Damn I haven't talked to you in aaaaages. I hope all is well in thesis-land.

Hmm, so I can enjoy the complex-alternate-universe version of Bleach you provide here, without needing to be familiar with the complex-canon-universe on which it's based? I like this system. :D The only problem is that if I ever do get round to reading Bleach, I'll start it with a whole other fanon clamouring around in my head, one that will make the canon seem inadequate. "Enough with the protagonists already, give me some Shuuheiiiiii! And why is Kira not making angsty eyes at him, dammit?" Yeah, I think I'll stick to deliciously warped fanon. :p

I know! :( I've been so antisocial the last few weeks, apart from random bursts of procrastinatory Facebooking. Teh Thesis is due on Monday, though, so somewhere around Monday afternoon I plan to suddenly bound back into everyone's lives with a vengeance, whether they like it or not. XD

Absolutely amazing! I'm so glad you found and posted this, sweets. I really and truly am.

I love cruel, vicious Kira, as you well know, and can so easily see him hurting Shuuhei in bed (and Shuuhei lying there, his body responding but his mind...not. Sick and twisted of me, but hell, I still love it).

Shuuhei is breaking, and patching the holes with paper in ink? You have no idea what gorgeous images are appearing in my head at the moment, and I wish I could translate them onto screen here to tell you that this? Totally made my day. Thank you!

Oh wow.
I always make Kira a little on the cruel side too, but I think it works well for him.

This though, this is beautiful, exactly the kind of self-deprecating mindset Shuuhei would have, the poor thing. Haunting and wonderful, and just what I needed today.

I like it as a piece of writing (a lot), but I've never seen Shuuhei as that passive. Conflicted, absolutely. Confused, you bet. I think Shuuhei contains enough anger not to put up with Kira like that, though. Then again maybe I'm being a wishful, weak, sentimental sap who absolutely hates to see her favorite characters suffer. (Here, how about a back-rub, Shuu-chan. Let me wrap you in silk, Shuu-chan. Let me cook for you, Shuu-chan :-)

I do see Kira as broken, but he just might be salvageable. Again, wishful thinking?

Tehe, not at all, I am just as sentimental about Shuuhei. However, I think it's not so much 'putting up' with Kira as his desperate attempt to fix Kira, even with the knowledge that things aren't going to be alright. In my head it's not because he's weak, or particularly passive in his general life, it's because he'd do almost anything to keep more people around him from being hurt, even if that means injuring himself in the process. He always strikes me as the sort to implode rather than explode.

For some reason I tend to look on the bleak side with Kira, though part of me hopes I'll be proved wrong. He just always seems to full of despair, it's hard to imagine him healing.

Thanks for reading!
