Star Trek Drabble: "Five Seconds" (Spock/Uhura, PG)

"Five Seconds"
"Lock on to him, Mr. Chekov!" Captain Kirk repeated, panic causing him to raise his voice.
Uhura turned away from her communications panel to look at him. Spock had beamed down to the planet below to implant an explosive device, per Starfleet orders. They had only a few seconds to beam him up before the explosion decimated all in its wake.
"I am trying, Captain." Chekov replied.
Uhura's heart rate accelerated as the computer counted down…
"5...4..."
Uhura and Kirk made eye contact as the Ensign struggled to lock on to Spock's signal.
"3... 2..."
The countdown finished, "1... 0," as Chekov yelled, "I got 'im, sir!"
Uhura felt a wave of relief wash over her, but didn't give in to it completely until Kirk called the transporter room.
"Come in, Spock…"
After a few seconds of silence, during which Uhura's heart was somewhere in the vicinity of her throat, Spock's voice rang out across the bridge.
"Spock here, Captain."
Kirk’s relief was reflected in his smile as he asked Spock to report to the bridge.
When the turbolift doors opened a few seconds later, Spock did not look shaken by the near-death experience; nor did he flinch as they watched the explosion aftermath on the screen.
But Kirk didn't miss the slight hesitation as Spock walked by Uhura's station and spoke quietly, "I told you I would return, my ko-kugalsu*."
