[Salieri awakens on Saturday morning to a very unfamiliar scene. This isn't his room at the Emperor's palace in Vienna, the clothes he's wearing don't resemble his dressing gown in the slightest, and the woman shifting in her sleep next to him is most certainly not his wife. Frowning, he looks around the room for a moment before shaking the drone awake. When he speaks, his tone is impatient but lightly tempered.]
"Wake up, madam. Please, wake up!"
[The drone turns over, her eyes fluttering open as she smiles up at him.]
"Oh... good morning, dear. Did I sleep in again? I should be getting your breakfast ready!"
[Salieri sighs, closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose in confusion.]
"...No, I'm afraid I haven't much of an appetite this morning. More to the point, Fraulein, I believe you are confused about with whom you are speaking."
"You say the funniest things! That's why I love you."
"Now see here! I am quite certain that I have never met you in my life! Certainly I would remember a thing like that, hmm? I tire of these games - please, tell me how to get in contact with the palace. I must return to his majesty's court."
"...Well, I don't know who you're talking about, but if you want to call someone, why don't you just use the phone?"
[Salieri furrows his brow, looking confused as anything.]
"...The phone, you say?"
"Yes, the phone. Here."
[She picks up the telephone from the endtable next to the bed, handing him the receiver. Salieri turns it over in his hands, wondering what exactly he's supposed to do with it.]
"...So this device will enable me to speak with Emperor Joseph?"
"You can talk to whoever you want! Just tell the operator like always. I'm going to go start breakfast."
[The drone leans over and kisses him on the cheek, prompting an annoyed swat as he shifts away from her on the edge of the bed. She skitters off to the kitchen, leaving Salieri sitting there marveling at this unknown piece of technology. Deciding he really has no better recourse than to take this strange woman at face value, however, he finally speaks into the receiver.]
[Mayfield, there is a telephone call coming over the lines from a very confused man from the 18th century! For all his uncertainty, however, his voice is very calm and measured when he speaks.]
"...Hello. I would like to speak with Emperor Joseph, please. This is Antonio Salieri, his court composer. I seem to have been abducted and taken to a strange place far from Vienna. If His Majesty is too busy to speak with me, let him know that I am unharmed and will be making arrangements to return to his court as soon as I can. I apologize for this grave inconvenience."
