After my time in service is up, I'm going to Alaska and work a crabbing season. From what I hear, that is some damn good money for three-four months work. Like, in the 60,000-dollar range.

NO. NO. NO. You make that much money when you pull in a really good catch. And you're doing this in the north Pacific in the middle of the winter storm season, in a tiny crab boat. I don't know who told you this is a good idea, but there are much more fun ways to commit suicide.

Yeah, I just went over some information at a few company sites that concurs with you.

However, the 'average' percentage of a catch is still pretty damn good, as compared to what my CO makes. If all else fails, I could always work at a processer. Besides, I've always wanted to visit Alaska.

And for the record, suicide isn't on my "TO DO" list. I'm just using this as a (hopeful) springboard to further my wants.

Working boats in the Alaskan crab season was featured on the Discovery Channel as "The most dangerous job in the world by days worked vs. deaths".

It looked interesting but from memory they have one death each season, on average.

Serving in Iraq as a contractor is statistically safer.
