Politics and cynicism.

Lemme put this right out there, before anything else: I identify as "cynical." I don't think the majority of people are inherently good, I generally assume power corrupts, and I don't have a lot of faith in humanity's ability to advance civilization without immediate fear of death.

This mindset lends itself well to Chicago politics. Of course ( Read more... )

I took that survey, or one very similar to it, and I ended up with Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich at the top.

I think that's close but not quite.

They won't vote for her just because she's Hilary. Or just because she's a Clinton . . .

Interesting. I agree with you that Obama needs to provide answers ("hope" is not the answer), but his experience with the Chicago political machine may mean that he's better prepared to handle hard-core Washington politics than I thought...

I reluctantly support Hillary, on the grounds that she has some ideas and is a pretty good infighter. I wouldn't invite her over for coffee and a chat, but I think she'd make a qualified president.

I spent the best years of my youth organizing for reform within the Teamsters union. Therefore, as far as PhD's in political cynicism are concerned, I graduated from Harvard -- you only went to Yale. : - ) (Actually, Teamsters and Chicago politics are so intertwined, or used to be, that you couldn't have one without the other so let's just say we have dual degrees ( ... )

Is that a politician's "Promised Land" looks nothing like what the rest of us define as the Promised Land. It's similar to the software development example of designing a swing (best process I've seen in shown here: http://www.cerkit.com/cerkitBlog/content/binary/project.JPG ).

Wow.

I work for a sportswear company, and telaryn works for a construction contractor. I'm prety sure that comic sums up all of both of our work-related problems.

On an unrelated note, it occurs to me that I know you in real life. May I add you?
